Um...not if you check the oil level between changes.
The manual says check the oil every time you re-fuel, a bit conservative IMHO.
I recommend every 1000 miles unless it's a known oil burner.
Lots of people trash engines (and tires!) because they don't check anything on their own.
They give their toaster more attention then their car when they empty out the crumbs.
