Nexen Tires, Scion Wheels, TPMS Sensors

Post by PlatinumVibe08 »

Nexen Tires - Just ordered (4) N5000 tires in the 215/55-17 size.
Scion TC Wheels - Gonna put the new tires on my Scion wheels.
TPMS Sensors - Hope they transfer from my original 16" Vibe alloys to the Scion wheels.

Constructive comments / feedback / experience?

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the sensors but that's just me.

I thought the 08's didn't use sensors in the wheels, but used the ABS sensors to determine differences in speed somehow to determine the tire pressures. In any case if you have the sensors they should transfer just fine as long as the installer doesn't break any of them.

"215/55-17 size"

Is that correct? or did you mean 215/55-16? At least on my 2009 Vibe, the 17" wheels use 215/45-17 size tires, altho I've seen it mentioned in here that 205/50-17 is within the 3% size differential. If you're going all the way up to 215/55-17, according to the Discount Tire Direct calculator, you're going to be almost 5 mph faster at highway speeds than what is shown on your speedometer.

That 215/45/17 size make your speedometer read accurately

Thought about not bothering with the sensors, but decided not to stick a piece of black electrical tape over the light as I've done in the past when running the Scion wheels.

Nope, the 2008 models were the first year to have the pressure sensors in the wheels. Yep, hope they don't break them. That would suck.

That is correct, 215/55-17. The '03 - '08 Vibes sold with 17 inch wheels had 215/50-17 tires standard. Yes, I'm bumping up an aspect ratio and realize the wheel will turn fewer RPM's for a given speed and the speedo will be a few MPH off. No biggie. So what if my speedo reads 60 mph and I'm actually traveling 64/65 mph. I'll just rack up fewer miles on the odometer than I actually travel. Also looking forward the the slightly smoother ride afforded by the 55's vs. the 50's.

Should be getting them installed tomorrow before I vote. I'll keep y'all posted.

Well, I dropped the Vibe off at Wal-Mart after I voted and they installed the new Nexen N5000 tires on the Scion TC wheels with the TPMS sensors out of the stock Vibe wheels. So far, so good. Tires are smooth and quiet and look good on the car. :D

Looks great! Double-check and make sure the tires are all facing the right way, though (assuming they need to face a certain direction). Sometimes tire places will put them on backwards.

Are you kidding? I'm the type person who checks the tire pressure and lug nuts before driving away. They are on correct. They did a nice job. Thanks for the concern.

Looks good! I'm running nexen tires on my vibe. 235 45 17

I agree. They're pretty smooth and quiet. Good choice for a not-too-expensive tire
