A quick thanks to everybody that posted above, esp moonstonemike and his pictures. Blower motor started going out a year ago, drove around with my glove compartment on the floor so I could reach over with a heavy piece of wire (about 1" diameter including insulation, 30" long) and whack it, it would start again, usually. Recently the actuator went, and was driving me nuts.
On Amazon, bought a new blower motor, resistor, filter, and actuator for about $70. Took about 2 hours, the actuator was the hardest part, thank you to the person who recommended going through the radio slot without taking off the dashboard, using an extension and universal socket joint, to accomplish that part.
Cars are not my strong suit, so this was the biggest repair I have ever tried alone.
