HOORAY! I was eagerly awaiting the board's return. What'd I miss? Though the time away from the board has motivated me to clean my baby and have a mini photoshoot. Pics to follow in the appropriate thread :D What did everyone else get done while the board was down?

I too was having major GenVibe withdrawal symptoms! I am currently attempting to catch up on everything I've missed since I was last on on April 10th. The new setup will take some getting used to, but so far so good! It's great to be back!

HUGE THANK YOU TO MIKE FOR EVERYTHING HE HAS DONE AND CONTINUES TO DO FOR US GENVIBERS!!!

One thing I've noticed. If you post a large picture which can't be contained within the boundaries of the forum, it cuts the picture off instead of adding the scroll or resizing the picture.

LOL! You've definitely got some reading to do! Welcome back :)!

I just noticed that my post count has gone down significantly. It was somewhere around 3080 before the switch . I'm assuming it's because alot of my posts must have disappeared with the switch. I noticed my Garage thread was gone the other night, although my mom's was still up :?.

Loving every moment of this new software... but yes this seems to be a reoccurring issue with most users on here loosing at least 25% of their post count before the move. then again this web site community is 10 years old... ;)

I know I haven't been frequenting the forums as much in the past year, but what was the reasoning behind the change over?

the company that made the old forum software (it was a commercial product) stopped supporting the software about 7 years ago, and subsequently went out of business. it just didn't seem like a good idea to use unsupported software for so long - there are no security patches, new versions of the underlying libraries (php, perl, etc.) aren't supported, and so forth. there was also no mod community around the old software (zeroforum), so there was little opportunity to expand or improve features available for our members.

OK, because the change over pretty much lost all my attachments from my posts over the years, I plan to gradually find some of my threads that I posted photos and other files and re-upload them.

So far I'm not too crazy on how the forum software cuts off the images for the photos. It doesn't seem obvious that if you click on the photo the full image will show up on a pop up window. Is it possible to scale them when displaying them initially?

Also I've been informed that .wav files aren't permitted, but I can't seem to figure out what would be allowed.

Can we please upgrade to VBulletin? Their software is much more easier to navigate and is more user-friendly as well as better looking.

Look at http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/forum.php to see what I mean. It is so much easier and nicer looking.

Many attachments were preserved, but many were not unfortunately. Can you point me to an example of one that's missing attachments? Maybe I can do some research to improve the situation. gConverter migrated most of the posts and I migrated myself the ones that they missed - I still don't have an explanation for why they weren't able to migrate all of them. But the ones I migrated pretty much all got there attachments migrated as well.

I don't think so, but I'm also not seeing the cut-off that other people are seeing. I just see the image extend out right over the border of the page.
Herb wrote:Also I've been informed that .wav files aren't permitted, but I can't seem to figure out what would be allowed.
I don't see anything in the server configuration restricting what can be uploaded and downloaded, but I'll look around some more.

I uploaded an image that was far too big to display, and it is being resized in my browser to fit within the window. If I change my window size and reload the page, it resizes the image again. I think this is the desired behavior. I realize the clicking on the image isn't obvious, it's possible I can get a pointer icon to appear when you mouseover it; let me check that out.

I'm using Firefox 12, if you're getting the cut-off in a different browser, let me know which one.

Not sure what you did (if anything) but my "post counter" is back where is was before the switch! ..................... Thanks ;) I was at 1039 or so yesterday and now it is back over 1100+ which is where it should be. Another feature missing since the switch is our prestige titles. Any way to restore or replace "member", "god", etc? Maybe at different tier levels also, say 1000, then 2500, then 5000, etc. with different titles associated with those levels. Apprentice, Journeyman, Foreman, Supervisor, etc... (can you see the union side of me here  ). Keep up the good work guys :D

I feel like after the switch we lost a few people. Posts are lacking comments and such. Just feels a little empty. I'm glad that everyone who is still here is here. Also, I keep getting ads right under the gv.com banner, right in front of the board index and home buttons, making navigation almost impossible, any help?

Yes, I wrote a program that migrated from the old system to the new system some of the posts that the consultants didn't migrate, for reasons that I cannot explain. The ranks is an open issue; I'll talk to the moderators to start bouncing ideas around.
Also, I keep getting ads right under the gv.com banner, right in front of the board index and home buttons, making navigation almost impossible, any help?
Is this still happening? The layout is still screwed up with some margins and such, but I tested MSIE 9, Chrome, and FF12 and the navigation is clickable in all of them for me. I'll try to work on the layout a bit this weekend, I am not thrilled with it now but have to mull it over a bit.

It appears that stealth bumping is no longer possible with the new forum software, which is a good thing
Reference viewtopic.php?f=11&t=20145

When you reply to a thread, it bumps it to the top of the active topics list. In the old zeroforum software, if you deleted that bumping post, the thread stayed at the top of the active topics list. ( a stealth bump) With the new phpBB software, if you then delete that bumping reply post, the thread goes back in the list according to the date/time of the most recent surviving post in the thread (where it was before it was bumped)
