Very noisy winter tires

Post by flanders777 »

So, I just placed on my first winter tires for my 07 Vibe and the tire/ road noise sounds very loud. In general, i've noticed that Vibes are more generally road noisy, but this is kinda unbearable. Kinda sounds that i'm running an airplane or sometimes seems like i'm running with monster truck tires. The brand i'm using is Techno. Am I the only person suffering from really bad road noise? Are there any quite winter tire options?

Click on the SEARCH button on the top right of this page.Type in Winter TiresClick Next. You'll get two pages of posts on what winter tires are best and why. All personal opinion but could be very helpful to you.As a starting point, tires have ratings marked on the side wall telling you various things you'd like to know about them.Techno is a retreaded tire isn't it? If so they are cheap to purchase and probably will deliver to you exactly what you paid for. They'll grip in snow but their longevity and service to you will be questionable.Dave

Thanks for the response. I have looked at some of the posts for winter tires. I'm just curious if everyone experiences bad road noise with this car, especially with winter tires.

I've had Dunlop Wintersport M3's on my '05 since new and they are very loud compared to my all-seasons. That said and as you've pointed out, the sound deadening on the Vibes has never been great, so I just deal w/it (like turning the volume up on the radio). I can't imagine how bad it would be if I had studded tires...C_V

I run Firestone Winterforce. They're fully studded. They're very loud.... so what! I believe the traction I get and the ability to drive through anything greatly outweighs any minor inconvenience of the road noise of steel studs on pavement!!!

Does anyone else experience a small vibration in the wheel and floor board when driving though?

I just installed brand new winter tires on 09/10 OEM steelies and I don't get any vibrations in the wheel or floorboard of my 2010. Considering it's an old school knobby type tire it's fairly quiet until about 90kph. You most likely have a wheel/tire that's not properly balanced.

Those chunks of rubber you see strewn along the highways?? Retreads falling apart, mostly on 18 wheelers but its the same concept.See if you can get any sort of refund or trade them in. They are noisy, they vibrate and I will bet you weren't informed that they were retreads when you purchased them?Dave
