This does not mean they are discontinuing it. They will continue to make the cereal using reduced sugars and saturated fats, just not market it to children by using 10,000 TV ads a day.I have had a few boxes of the stuff back in my day and was frankly less than impressed with it anyway. 'Never understood what all the fuss was about.

Bummed out... Now how are the kids expected to get that healthy start for their day? Garbage foods that will get kids hopped up on sugar or HFCS are hard to come by! Who thought this would be a good idea? Think about those poor epidemics like childhood obesity and diabetes, they're going to suffer badly from this tragedy!

The issue with breakfast, is time. My morning routine consists of getting out of bed at about 6:20. I am dressed and such after a daily shower at about 6:40. 6:43-6:48/49 I eat a meager bowl of cereal. Then into the Vibe and off to school, where I arrive about 15 minutes before class beings, which is enough time to put my jacket away, and get to my first hour with some time to spare. If I were to leave later, I would have much more traffic to deal with, and that parking lot fills up fast. Because of my cramped schedule, I can't eat much anything else without throwing off my timing. I would LOVE to have something better, but time is the biggest factor.
Try being up @ 3:20AM and out of the house by 4:00.I shave and shower the night before bed which means I go to bed clean.BUT, I have other duties to perform before I leave the house. One of them is not breakfast. No time for that, and besides who wants to eat @ 3:45AM?

I solve the time/health breakfast problem by mixing Kashi GoLean (you know, that protein-healthy stuff that looks like dry dog food) with Cocoa Puffs. Health fix plus sugar fix. Win-win.

The funny thing is there is not a HUGE difference between healthy and sugar cereals. Watch the History Channel Breakfast Tech show and you will see. Nutritionally it is not all that different. So for me I switch between Cheerios, Froot Loops, Rice Krispies, Cocoa Puffs, etc.Currently I'm on a ban of Trix because now that they finally brought back the balls a few years back, they have these swirled colors thing. Tasted like garbage, I want my solids back! Each morning at 5am consists of a cup of Keurig Donut Shop coffee with CoffeMate French Vanilla Light, a bowl of cereal with 1% milk. Then off to work.
Want to stump a dietician? Ask them why orange juice is often said to be a better nutritional choice than Tang instant breakfast drink. There is no logical scientific reason supporting that common assertion. The followup is if you put sugar on an unsweetened cereal (which most people do) how is that any better nutritionally than a presweetened cereal? I know buying unsweetened cereal and adding my own sugar is better for my wallet but my body won't know any difference.

Yeah.. scrambled eggs with diced ham and veggies is almost as fast as cereal.Though honestly, for a cereal breakfast, the Kashi GoLean cereal *is* pretty different from most cereals... a lot less processed flour, a lot less carbs, a lot less sugar, and a lot more protein/other grains. Most of the other healthy cereals I've looked at are almost as sugary as the junk cereals... this one seemed to be the only exception. Which is why I mixed with Cocoa Puffs

I saw he's still at Meijer. Takes up only .0001% of the cereal aisle but he's still there.

For me, the more sugar the better, hence the Cocoa Puffs, but I know that's terrible so I mix them.According to my husband, the Kashi GoLean is fine, it just tastes like healthy cereal (but apparently not like cardboard). And you can always add some artificial sweetener (like Stevia, mmm no chemicals) to give it some more flavor. That was my mom's method for years.However... the Kashi *does* still totally look like dried dog food in my opinion. But due to the high protein and mixed grains/low carbs it *does* keep you feeling full.

I find a protein shake with fruit is about as quick and much better for you than cereal. Get chocolate whey protein isolate (the vanilla is vile IMO). Couple scoops in the blender with a banana or strawberries, ice, water and powdered non-fat milk and I'm good to go.

I do one scoop with a cup of milk, some ice, and a few scoops of ovaltine (lol me and my sugar, but it's FORTIFIED sugar) and my husband does it with peanut butter in place of ovaltine. Yum! And fast (and NOT a low calorie food, lol). But best if you eat it with a piece of fruit, having something to chew on helps convince your body it's full.

Alright!! I see I'm not the only one who loves 'kids' cereal. I usually have a heaping bowl of either Lucky Charms or Froot Loops before heading off to work, although I have been known to eat Honey Nut Cheerios if I can't get either of the other, or run out. Reeses Puffs are good too!Speaking of 'healthy cereal', I tried Kix once many moons ago...might as well throw out the cereal and eat the box they came in. I ate two spoonfuls and threw out the rest.
