VETERAN -- A Pine City woman was injured Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle accident on state Route 13 that included a school bus.
The accident took place at the intersection of state Route 13 and Sullivanville Road in the town of Veteran, just north of Horseheads.
State police said an 18-wheel logging truck driven by Bert VanZile, 72, of Alpine, going south on state Route 13, was waiting to make a left turn onto Sullivanville Road.
A Pontiac Vibe driven by Patricia Peterson, 46, of Pine City, stopped behind the truck.
The school bus, driven by John Rice, 22, of Horseheads, then came up on the Vibe and was unable to stop in time, knocking it into the truck.
The school bus was from Horseheads Central School District, but no children were on the bus at the time, troopers said.
Peterson was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira for treatment. She was still being evaluated in the hospital Wednesday night, a spokeswoman said. Her Pontiac Vibe was towed from the scene.
VanZile and Rice were not injured.
The school bus and log truck were both driven from the scene. Traffic had to be detoured around the accident site for about an hour until the road was cleared.
The Chemung County Sheriff's Office and the Horseheads Town & Country Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Rice was charged by state police with following too closely.
