Fall In Jersey: 2006 Mini-Meet

Post by ragingfish »

After the great success of the ohio meet this year, I became determined to get a jersey meet going this time around. I've only successfully hosted 1 -- the delaware water gap meet back in 04...last year's jersey mini meet was rained out. Twice. GRR.In any case, dates are pending, but I'm looking at mid-October.Location will be either Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold, NJ or Allaire State Park in Farmingdale, NJ.Details are still fuzzy, but please post here if you'd seriously consider attending. I will gauge whether or not to move forward with serious planning based on potential interest.

I would certainly love to attend, we both would, but CP's sister is getting married on Oct. 22 so that may unfortunately limit our traveling abilities. We'll see though...it will mostly depend on the exact date of the meet.

If I do first weekend of october is that feasible? If not, I can push off until november...

Pushing back into November might be the better of the two but I'd hate for it to be too cold either. What's the temperature usually like there in early November?

I place my vote at early Oct. I will be in Training at Ft. Bragg starting Oct. 16 for a week or two. But I can work something out no matter when it is. How far away is this from DC area?

That's not to bad a drive, I imagine (depending on traffic) it should only take a few hours. When you get dates let us all know. I know that joholste was talking to me earlier about a convoy up there to any one else that is interested. So you know that at least us will be there. Also I know it's a dumb question, but other cars are wecome right? I figure the more the merrier, as long as the Vibes still outnumber the rest, right?

Once we find out where it is for sure... I MIGHT be able to make it. Funds are really tight right now cause I'm going on a two week vacation at the end of October. Will have to play it by ear and see what happens.

DC is approximately 4 hours from me.I was NOT expecting such a large response! This is exciting. I will likely go see both locations on Friday, and then settle on a date (hopefully) by this weekend.

Something right off 195 would be good. I have a tendancy to get lost easily, and so if I can get that close I am bound to be able to find a state park. And I am sure by then we can exchange some phone numbers or something.Just out of curiosity.... where is everyone coming from? I know we talked about the convoy starting in VA, but I am sure we can either wait for people to catch up to us, or meet some Vibers on the way.......Basically if you are near I-95 or I-195.... then let us know.

EDIT: In my continuing quest for employment that doesn't suck, there is a distinct possibility I may be at a new job by the time this meet rolls around. If so, I have no say in my time off for the first 3 months, so this meet *MAY* have to be rescheduled if this goes through...I should know more by monday hopfully..

Historically, meets go until just before dusk and then we go to dinner, and close out the evening with some sort of entertainment...Even if you didn't make it to the park you could still meet up with us later on...

I think Allaire is free to enter, but according to the NJ State Park website, Island Beach charges a $5 entrance fee daily after Labor Day. And, Island Beach is a little harder to get to, but Seaside Heights is a blast.Allaire State ParkIsland Beach State Park

I should probably clarify this is a RAIN OR SHINE EVENT! Because we'll have out-of-staters, and time off in my life is a luxury when I have it, this event CAN NOT and WILL NOT be rained out. So don't wuss out.Balto: Allaire is free, but when I stopped in the other day to scope it out, it was, well, kinda boring...not much scenery, and it seemed a bit unkempt. Plus, I've been promising for ages to have a meet at the shore, but since nothing is set in stone, we'll see!!!

I like that idea. I have to work on Sunday morning at 6AM, so I will be taking off Sat night, but I can stay out late still. I am used to driving at night and working all the next day. But keep me posted, if nothing else I will have to just go up with you guys and leave early.

Only been to Island Beach twice. I usually use the parks that have bike trails (like Allaire which has a 5-mile trail to the beach, or Sandy Hook which has a paved trail throughout its beachhead). Allaire does have that Allaire Village and train, but is only marginally exciting when there are planned activities occuring. Otherwise, it does seem somewhat boring.Island Beach does have a beach community nearby, which has an active night life. And, it does have miles of scenic beach, which is always exciting!Either way, I plan on attending. Getting a convoy up from the south sounds like a great idea, and fun!!
