MD child safety seat law change 10/1/2003

Effective 10/1/2003, children under age 6 regardless of weight, or under 40 pounds, regardless of age must be in safety or booster seat. Fine is $50 if caught. I didn't change the law, and won't defend it, just letting people know. (and trying to kick some activity into the maryland forum)

No worries. I can't remember how big my kids were at age 6.

I would gladly accept the MD law over the NJ one. For NJ the law is 8/80. Eight years old or eighty pounds. I am very glad that it is an "OR" in there, or I have a feeling my daughter would be going to high school in a booster seat.

That is tough. The MD "OR" works the other way from NJ. The MD law is that a 20 year old person who weighs 39 pounds and a 5 year old that weighs 300 pounds must be in special seats. (numbers exagerated to make the point. Probably need more than just a special seat for a 300 pound 5 year old)
