Piggyback ECU is probably best bet

I presume the speed limiter has a function - maybe to protect the engine if not your life. And what is the limit, 95? And why would you want to disable that?

Yeah, but this guy already asked this question in a different thread and got the "fatherly" answers. If he really wants to disable it, online comments wont stop him, might as well tell him the answer he's looking for and be done with it. Not to sound rude lol

I didn't know there was such a thing. So what is the limit? I think I have only gone up to 85 mph on my 1.8L 2009. Seems to me it would be based on rpm - not mph.

Mine appears to be 110 mph. Not sure how you bypass that. Some type intercept coming off the Transmission to the ECU. Try MO (when it comes back up) some guys have done it there.

It seems to me that since we're in the "performance and tuning" thread that it would be a reasonable inquery. I could see if the thread was titled, "safety defensive driving". Then i think i would be a little out of sorts with my question. Salsaguy and all who understand my question and reason, thank you. Anyone else providing their comments, dont worry, your streets are safe with me on them.

Well I don't condone such high rate of speed however, living in OKieland, there are many smooth paved roads you can see several miles in either direction. When I'm in the mood and don't have any traffic I've been know to push it. The last time I hit a hard dip and it was a little unnerving.

@ salsa guy, thank you for your honesty. All these other self righteous folks act like they never tried to pin a needle. Sometimes we get daring or a little curious. Remember the teen years. Anyway. Thanks. I'm gonna go get the piggyback and see what it can do.

Could have sworn I posted this somewhere before...

Then again, some people seem to frown upon my vids... especially the "Winter Freeway Driving" ones!

I'm just surprised that the 1.8L can hit 110-120 mph. What's the rpm at that speed? 85 has been about my top. And I don't even ride roller coasters any more - gave that up 15 years ago when I was 55.

Haha, I watched all your videos, think I commented on some of the music you were listening to as well.

Jake: At 185kmh it was 5000 rpm in 5th.

Always make sure there's a decent song! Sometimes you can even hear it over the roar of the studded tires!

My 1.8L AT only has a 4th. But if I were driving that fast I'd need a 5th. ;-)

If this is set up like most Toyotas then you will need to get a performance chip and replace the on in the computer. They run about $150 to $300 sometimes more. I got one for my 86 Honda Prelude SI when i was in Germany. Was litited to 120 mph for 30 min then cut down to 95 or 30 min then back up. Could reset it if i shut car off while driving then restarted it, not fun to try unless on straight road, and could jump back up to 120. My chip was bought in Germany where it was easy to get hold of. Here in the states you would have to check at a performance shop. They may know how to get hold one. Installing it if you do it wrong will fry your computer then you are screwed.
