stock GT I'd say mid to high 15s. My moded base runs a high 16... whoo hoo... yeah thats slow.A GT with a cold air intake, exhaust and unichip should easily be low 15s high 14s.

Hmm, sounds like a modded GT would hit about 90 mph or so. Would you guys keep it in the redline for that extra second in third, or is it worth shifting into 4th at the last minute. Sounds like it'd be borderline as to which gear to finish in.
Stock but for a Short Ram Intake i posted a 15.2 @ 89mph and logged a top speed drag limited at 139.4mph.

Ok, good on the quarter mile. What about flat out, top end speed? I will have about 2 miles to get it up there. Will hold it in each gear til7 or so trying to get there. I got 115 the only other time but I was not holding it down in each gear.
You're not gonna hit your top speed by taking each gear up to only 7000rpm. You will need to pretty much redline it in order to land as close or past the lift point in the next gear. That means bringing it up to 8200rpm or so and shifting fast.2 miles is a pretty tight distance to try and top it out from a dead stop. So wind the gears completely out and shift quick.Quote, originally posted by WD0AFQ » I will have about 2 miles to get it up there. Will hold it in each gear til7 or so trying to get there.

LOL. Now, dog gone it. I said I have a 2 mile strip. This is an old runway and taxiway. They closed the airbase in 60. Shortly there after we had a drag strip on it with likes of Sox and Martin coming in with a 66 Baricuda. We ran there til the gas crunch in early 70's. Remember, I am 52 years old and have been here longer than most of you guys. My son is 32 years old. I am just trying to have a real good estimate and know how to get there in a short distance. When I tried it before, I had no idea how this engine was to perform at high RPMs. Remember, I was brought up on red lines at 6250, and nothing over that or float the valves. This 8 grand stuff is like an old 2 cycle Kawasaki motorcycle. I appreciate everyone bearing with an old man. Only mod is a short open air intake. I will use GPS as my speedometer now lies with new tires not the manufacturer size.Dan
that is pretty freaking cool! i wish i had something like that around here. even though, my maxx is governed at like 105 (no, i haven't hit it, i read about it)highest i've gone is around 95 mph, and it still felt as solid as 35, not to mention, plenty of pedal/oomph left.

Well, that Sox and Martin Cuda ws a 68. Don't know why I said 66. Guess it is old age. I got pictures of it somewhere around here. I was not old enough to remember the closing of the base but I was old enough to have run that drag strip in 71 and 72. Still own the car, a 1965 Mustang Fastback that my dad bought me when I was 15 for all the work I did for him on the farm. He never paid me money but he certainly rewarded me for my sweat. Oh, I forgot. Hypertech makes little gizmos that will remove that topend shutdown on GM rigs, at least pickup trucks. I did it on two of mine. SWEET Off road only, mind you.
Oh yea. Once I bought this real nice Lumina sport coupe, 91, red. Second night we had it I told the wife to hang on. Now realize I had taken her down to the "strip". The dang thing died at 105 on the button. I thought I had blown up our brand new ride. When it fell back to 95 it fired back up. That was my first dealing with GM's SHUTDOWN. Said it had to do with the tire ratings. I had always been a Ford man up til then, no tire rating problems. They buy good tires and poor engines.
My '04 base vibe got up to 117m.ph. with no problem but I had to slam on the brakes due to law enforcement, no ticket so I can only assume he wasn't clocking!
My base I've only got up to 117, it dost shut down or anything. Never had it there for more then 10sec tho, (on a rural highway at 3a.m.) I have the 17in alloys with stock height tires and 114 seemed to be my top speed ceiling.

Today I Trapped 89.00 mph and ran 15.688 with a .705 R/T. Clutch is toast and was slipping the entire time, along with bald street tires. only mod is Muffler delete.
I've held mine at 135MPH for about 15 minutes!!! Beat that! That was in a Road Rally on two lane highways. and that was a little above 7000 in 5th gear....if you go up to sixth it started to slow down to due to wind and hills!Sorry I didn't take a pic at 135, its a little nuts! but I did flash one at 130...here's the proof!
he's talking at the track in the 1/4, not on a highway where you're already going faster speeds. 135 mph?? bleh. iknow i've been 130+ in my old vibe GT and 140+ in my LGT and STI. but i would never recommend doing it again.... just not safe to be driving those kinds of speeds.
