The Vibe Lives in the form of a Lexus?

Post by JetBlack09VibeGT »

It looks like Toyota is going to continue the Matrix platform and make up for the loss of volume that the Vibe provided by building a Lexus CT200h.See the article:http://www.autoblog.com/2010/0...-200h/

They finally come out with a high end sport wagon and they goof it up by only offering it in a hybrid version?

The HS250h is a sedan version of the Prius and yields a $12,000 base price premium over its Toyota cousin so $37,000-$39,000 is not too far off. Only time will tell if this is a car designed for the US market. After all the IS300 Sport wagon failed here and I though that was a pretty cool car.

I keep going back and forth on the idea that this might be a reality in North America. If Volvo has its little sport hatch, BMW and Mercedes are supposedly bring there small sport hatches to our shores, then maybe this will be a reality. On the other hand, screw mpg', s if I'm looking to shell out close to $40K for a luxury car, then I want something that not only looks sporty, but can back up those looks with performance.

I'd be real interested in a non-hybrid, non CVT, model with a nice six speed stick and maybe the 2.4l engine.

I am looking forward to see if Lexus will come out with gas engine only and not Hybrid. I still have my 03 Vibe with all possible options and still running strong. If the cargo floor arrangement does not have a lip, will certainly buy one. Hope it will not need premium gas

You bring up a good point about the cargo floor. If it is loaded with batteries, will it have a spare tire and storage under the cargo floor, or will that go away.In regard to the gasoline version, I guessing no. The Lexus marketing plan for the up coming few years is to be the largest Luxury name plate to offer full Hybrid only models. I am willing to bet Lexus will have within 3 years the sedan that is already available (HS250h), followed by the CT200h sport wagon, possibly a Hybrid only Mini SUV or Crossover, a larger sedan similar in size to the Camry, and finally a coupe. The brand is banking on an economic recovery and as the economy becomes stronger, that ultimately means cost of fuel will go up with demand.

I think you're missing the point of the Lexus CT200H and the Cadillac SRX. First the CT200h is a Hybrid sport wagon for Lexus to further build the H Line and be the worlds largest luxury brand of select hybrid only vehicles. The SRX is a completely different class and competes directly with the Lexus RX350. Both of which are CUV's that offer front or all wheel drive for the affluent soccer moms that want to look fashionable but have no taste or sense of individuality. However, if only given the choice of the two, I would definitely go with the SRX, unless, of course I can have the CTS wagon, preferably the one with the Corvette engine, ^ speed manual tranny, and a Zero-60 Time of 3.9 seconds.http://www.caranddriver.com/ne..._news

Prius not supposed to be "Sport". Prius is for those that don't like to spend big bucks on gasoline. Although you could probably do more sports with the money you save driving a Prius! The Vette engined CTS Wagon is mad, I tell you, completely mad! Now, the Vette with a Vette engine... ooooh, yeah!!!!

Here is the article and the Full Specs on the Lexus. It was announced this week that it IS coming to the US.http://www.autonews.com/apps/p.../1164Production of the CT 200h will begin by the end of 2010 for all markets, the company said. The hybrid will team a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with the Toyota hybrid system to deliver "2.0-liter performance with class-leading CO2 emissions," the company said. But while some automakers are equipping alternative-fueled vehicles with lithium ion batteries, the Lexus will stick with a nickel-metal hydride battery pack. The hatchback will feature "relaxed" and "dynamic" driving modes, as well as an "EV mode" that allows about one mile of zero-emission travel at up to 28 mph. Lexus did not provide performance or fuel economy figures.Lexus said the CT 200h will ride on a new front-wheel-drive platform with a MacPherson strut front suspension and double wishbones at the rear. For years, Lexus executives had said the brand would not offer a vehicle in segments below the IS 250 and ES 350. But in a release, Mark Templin, Lexus Division general manager, said he hopes the CT 200h will bring "a whole new buyer to the Lexus brand."The average age of Lexus customers has increased, while competitors have found youthful buyers with vehicles such as the Audi A3, BMW 1 series and Volvo C30.In 2005, the average Lexus owner was 51 years old, according to Power Information Network. By 2009, the average age had crept up to 53 despite the addition of the more youth-oriented IS sedan.Lexus CT 200hWheelbase: 102.3 in.Length: 170.1 in.Width: 69.5 in.Height: 56.3 in.2010 Pontiac VibeWheelbase: 102.4 in.Length: 171.1 in.Width: 69.5Height: 61.0 in2010 Toyota MatrixWheelbase: 102.4Length: 171.9 in.Width: 69.5Height: 61.0 in

Unless you live and work in the metro areas, where speeds are no more than 45 Mph, then hybrids would be ok, but if you drive long distances over 45Mph, they are useless, just buy a corolla, matrix, or jetta diesel instead

And the new generation Cadillac SRX is a pimped out version of the Chevy EQUINOX and GMC TERRAIN. Not the Traverse or Acadia (or Saturn Outlook, for that matter). Like JetBlack pointed out, the Traverse and Acadia are 7-8 passenger vehicles. The SRX matches the Equinox and Terrain's 5 passenger configuration/capacity.I actually like the new SRX, quite a bit. It's a vast, vast improvement over the first generation (2004-2009) SRX. Every time I see one, it reminds me of the awful "dustbuster" design of the GM mini-vans in the early/mid 90s. The new turbo to debut on the 2011 SRX model is very expensive, but what's outrageous is how poor Cadillac resale value is, across the board. They are guaranteed to drop 12-15k in the first two years. My half-a$$ed vehicle plan: Holding onto my 2006 Vibe for another 4-5 years, then going after a 2012 used SRX turbo. Or, when the Vibe makes a comeback, I'll... nevermind.

Or, when the Vibe makes a comeback, I'll... nevermind. The reality is every luxury brand has poor resale value for three key reasons:1) Those who can afford a luxury car will buy new 85% of the time.2) Luxury brands use the latest technology, thereby dating the previous model year faster. (Also making them less reliable after 5 years,er uh cough Mercedes)3) Luxury typically use radical designs that look old within 3 years in order to entice the owners to go out and buy new again.

I waited in those lines, I got my alloted 10 gallons on my odd / even day when the green flag was flying. I've been 10 cars from the pump when Ooops, no more gas to pump! I WANT ONE SO BAD!!!!/end sarcasmWhat's the point in spending $40k+ on a car you could build yourself for no more than $30k. And if you went with a 1.8L Matrix, you'd lose 5 or 10 MPG max.Hybrid cars are a gimick meant to convince people that going green is the future. For those that are concerned about the environmental impact, consider this: The battery and electric motor from ANY hybrid can't be recycled.I think Lexus really missed the mark with this one.Just my 2 cents though.-Ryan-

Imagine:Mazda3 hatch mates with a Dodge Caliber = 9 months later out poops one of these things.Looks cool, but really the gas mileage is poor for a hybrid expectations. The boss just bought a regular sedan Lexus H and was bragging about his 40mpg. I looked at him and said "Is that it? I can do that in my car if I drove it right!" little exaggeration, but not alot, eh? He did say that if he keeps it under 40mph, that the gas motor never comes on, he runs on only electric.
