What the Heck? Vibe is only 4th-best EPA mileage Pontiac?

Post by ZubenElGenubi »

Got an email from Pontiac today and it took me to this site:http://www.pontiac.com/fuel-efficiency/?evar1=0309Are you kidding me? The 2009 Vibe only ranks 32 MPG Highway? That has got to be a typo. I'm gonna dig around and get more numbers...

Yes, pretty poor mileage... But people got the power they wanted, I guess. At any rate, it's hard to compete with things like the G5 XFE's 37 MPG under the new test cycle. Even the old Vibe didn't get that on the EPA's old test cycle.

I knew that the G3 and G5 would have better mileage, but I was surprised to see that the G6 gets better...

funny thing though, in "real" world people get 35mpg, but even my moms 3.5l v6 malibu gets 35mpg on the hwy. my friends supercharged cobalt gets 35mpg on the hwy. Most of those i usually had 2-3 for real world use...

I don't agree with those numbers. I am seeing about 33 combined MPG with my 09 vibe. For comparison, I owned a 06 G6 4 cyl for 2+ years before buying the vibe. It averaged about 28 mpg combined over the exact same route. Have a look at the link in my sig for a more detailed breakdown of my 09s milage.

My bet is that your speedo reads about 2 mph high and it's inflating your perceived gas mileage. EPA gas milage is measured seperately from the speedometer.

wow, i wish i was getting 32. i have a heavy foot, so it's my own fault. if i'm light on the pedal and stay at 65 highway i get about 30. normally i'm 25-28 depending on the gas(winter mix or summer). i measure my MPG at the pump. i keep track of how many miles i drive per fill and also much was put in. miles driven / amount of gas used.
None. Vibe is gone.

On trips I tend to drive the speed limit plus about 4 mph and get about 32 mpg highway on my '09 1.8L - same as on the 1.8L '03 I had. My typical use pattern is probably 70/30 town/highway and I get about 24-25 mpg.Just got back from a 1,300 mile rt in my '07 SWB T&C 3.3L - mostly highway - 23.7 mpg. EPA rated at 26 before they made the number more realistic. Today the EPA number would probably be 24 mpg. I might have saved $10 by going 10 mph slower but that would have been 3 hours more driving time. I figure that using my Vibe would have save me about 13 gal of gas at $2.25, or about $30.00. IMO the T&C is $30 more comfortable for us than the Vibe for that long trip.

Even with my Short Ram CAI and the cruise set at just shy of 80, I'm still averaging 30-32 hwy. Around town varies between 25-30, depending on how bad a week I've had.
