GM Card Top Off

Post by jake75 »

Got e-mail today - my $1,250 GM Card bonus is worth $2,000 on "most" GM vehicles - ends 2-28-14.
In 2009 they topped off a $1,250 bonus to $3,000; used that to buy my '09 Vibe.
If it were $3,000 this year I might have been tempted to look.

In the mail today was a GM "loyalty" offer - $500 and up - good until 2-28-14. So that is $2,500 off plus any other rebates plus any dealer discount.
Even with all these incentives I think if I were buying I'd rather have a Forrester, Rav4 or Mazda CX5 than an Equinox or Terrain.

I prefer cash rewards cards myself, I can spend the money anywhere I want. Our PNC card pays 4% on gas, 2% on food, and 1% on everything else. They automatically issue a check when the rewards balance exceeds $100, usually results in a check every three or four months.

They probably hate me though because I never pay interest. :D

I don't use my GM Card much - and only for !% categories. So I am trading 1% cash for 5% GM earnings - and have used the GM earnings twice when they have topped up the reward so my actual benefit has been around 10% of card purchases. I'll have to look into that PNC Card - Bank of American is 2% groceries, but only 3% on gas.
