No, this is the one they are building instead of the new GMC small SUV they showed earlier.

So what is this, a Crossover Sonic (with portholes? lol) I haven't looked much into the platform. Good thing they waited 30 years before reviving the nameplate... Hopefully people won't remember the last Encore you could buy.

From what you shown here, I like the new Encore. It's Vibe like and hopefully with a smooth and quiet ride which I wish the Vibe was. It will be a bit smaller then the 2009 Vibe. I saw the Chevy Sonic at the 2011 NYC Auto show. It will be built on the same basic platform specs. and at the same plant.Hope I get to see it this year at the NYC show.

The car is going to be heavy and will use a 1.4L turbo? It will also use noise cancellation gimmicks to keep the whiny motor in check. I think the interior is nice.http://www.insideline.com/buic....html

I think the front is the best looking part of the car. The rest looks pretty bland....but I will be 40 in 18 days and looking for a quieter ride....LOL.......maybe I should make my next car a Ford Crown Vic.....

Maybe it's just me, but it looks an awful lot like a cross between a Matrix and a Highlander. That's not very far from a Vibe.

Hey now old folk! Not a direct insult to you !! I've just read where Buick is struggling with "young" buyers and they are trying to attract us. What they keep offering is younger all right, but for my upper 40's mother.

I'll take it if it comes with the blonde in the driver seat as well :-)

I don't know ColonelPanic, I heard that Renault Alliance and Encore owners were all fit and slim due to all that walking back to civilization to get a tow truck

Its not that the back of the car is ugly or anything, it is just that it is reused. It looks like the first generation of the Murano

That Buick grille just says, "I'm old". It says it about the car, and the owner. I'd consider it if the grille was black mesh or something sportier looking.

The Vibe was a big seller for GM and surely that encouraged them to try it again.

The numbers are on here somewhere. My guess is that the Vibe was never profitable - - probably because the advertising expenditures were so high

140hp and 143ft lbs of tq. Wow I could get up to highway speed in 2weeks flat. There are things that can be done for the styling of it. Ditch all the bling bling chrome and black out the headlights. Figure out a way to lower it two inches, upgrade the turbo and it just might get out of its own way.

Is it just me or does the new fusion they show on there look like a lancer mated with a Taurus and that's what their ugly offspring came out as?

'First Drive' Review of the Buick Encore, Buick's version of the Chevy Sonic, without the lower price.

Appears to be unfortunate proof that 'New GM' learned absolutely nothing from 'Old GM' and the NUMMI experiment.

I thought that review was highly positive - almost reads as if it were written by the Buick Encore Marketing Staff. My personal preference would be to forgo all the luxury and opt for more car for the money - e.g maybe the Mazda CX5 or even a Chevy Equinox. If a 4 wheel drive is essential, then maybe a Subaru.

So you want a cheaper version of the Encore? How about a Chevy version!

....But sorry, Americans don't get this opportunity.... Canada only! :D

The Trax looks interesting (and now I see why they have the Buick Encore) - it's too bad it's not available in the US. When I was at the 2013 Auto Show, I saw the Encore on display (yet for some reason it wasn't available to enter, unless I missed it). It looks so narrow and tall compared to the Vibe - is it just me?

The Trax looks pretty cool but has the same issue (as they are based off of the same design). I dunno how good the handling will be on these with the tight fast turns. The Vibe has the "racing inspired suspension" and seems to be a little bit wider but still slightly top heavy.

Trax also has 6mt in Fwd versions.

Factory turbo FTW. Cruze guys are seeing 175-200whp with a tune and exhaust...

I seen the Encore at the 2012 New York Auto Show last April. However, it was on the turntable display. It looks okay but it is a bit smaller then the Vibe. I think the style and it's appearance will have to grow on you. Hope to get in one at the next show in April.

I saw one in person the other day. Definitely more attractive up close.

Sorry for the poor quality, was using the camera phone and I have shaky hands.

Those mirrors are just asking "someone please hit me" and will be easy targets. Not the best design for door rear-view mirrors :(

Fortunately it's not a very wide car (69.9", same measurements as the original Vibe.) And just fold the mirrors in when parked.

I drove to my local Buick dealer yesterday to see an Encore in person and to take a picture of the Encore parked next to my Vibe for comparison. Surprise!, my local Buick dealer has just gone out of business. They had been at that location for more than 40 years! It was quite a shock.

The Encore is much more attractive than I originally thought. I saw one in the mall the other day while shopping.

Now I feel sad every time I see the picture with those mirrors, thanks to you! Thought it looked so good (although elderly) up until you pointed that out!

The horsepower in the Buick Encore is 15 higher in the "Sport Touring" trim over the base model.

Good deal, it needs it! I had an opportunity to spend a few hours in one and found it to be a nicely done little car for the Sonic cute-ute that it is. But that little 1.4L struggled to keep up. That same engine is downright peppy in my Sonic.

I suspect the Trax will not be getting this to further differentiate the two but who knows...

At any rate they should share this new engine with the Sonic for a proper RS model.
