So the other day I went to my local VW dealer because online it showed they had 1 GLI in stock. I headed down and spoke to a salesman, walked out back and took it for a spin. It was an Autobahn with a six speed manual. Holy Wow! Talk about a nice power boost and tight drive compared to the Matrix. I was a big fan of everything the car offered, from the BT connectivity with the radio to the dual zone HVAC and heated seats, leatherette, the looks of the car (it's pretty mean compared to the other Jetta models). I drove it twice this past week once alone, once with my fiance. I tried to negotiate with the dealer but they are basically not budging from MSRP and gave me hassle over even like $100 off the appearance package. Then they proceeded to pressure me and give me the "we need a deposit or you can lose the car". But I told them the advantage is mine because I don't NEED a car right now.I then took it upon myself to call up another dealer/salesman who I have been emailing for a few months. He was recommended by another member on VWVortex and today's call set everything in motion. He was very knowledgeable and honest about everything. He explained how there were only 1200 at dealers right now and they were not letting them go discounted. He then said the REAL production ramp up is not set for the GLI until October 3rd. Now before I could even talk price to him, he offered to order one for me that would be mine, low mileage as it would be at the dealer and not swapped, and he quoted me $250 over invoice (almost $800 savings right there). I didn't even haggle I told him I would discuss with my fiance and get back to him. Well I'm working now to get the papers signed and faxed and throw down my deposit. Here is the car I am getting:2012 VW Jetta GLI Autobahn-6 speed manual-200hp 2.0TSI motor-Platinum Gray Metallic exterior-18" alloy wheels-dual zone HVAC-heated seats-black leatherette-red stitched seats/wheel-flat bottom steering wheel-RNS-510 audio (VW's most recent version w/ BT for iphone/MP3)-integrated fog lamps-Auto up/down front windows-sunroof-sport pedals-heated washer nozzlesAppearance Package-lip spoiler-GLI rubber floor/trunk mats-cargo net

As for the lack of hatch (GTI) I checked one out, the hatch is tiny and the backseat is small compared to the GLI. The trunk of the GLI is massive and the seats could easily hold a rear facing child seat (for the future).Oh, and the flat bottom stearing wheel is awesome.
Congratulations! I know that was a long time coming. So, is this the eurospec one you talked about before? Very attractive cockpit design. If you have kids or will have them, this should be an excellent choice - not only are they very safe with state of the art technology, but I understand it is very roomy in back. Once we had an older daughter sandwiched between the twins car seats we had to get an Accord - the Civic was just too tight back there.

Yeah I'm leaving my hatchback days. I started in a hatch with my Escort, then two sedans, then a coupe, back to a hatch, and now back to a sedan. Still have not ordered it yet. My local dealer emailed me back and now offered $200 UNDER invoice. So I am enjoying the fight but don't think I'll do much better. Heading there Monday to see the paperwork and sign.

And when you actually put a deposit down and order the vehicle, I will change the the title of the thread back.

Your too kind, lol. But yes the same one. I'm not so worried about the service, the dealer actually has good ratings and would be where I take it for service. 3yr. 36k free maintenance with the Jetta so no worries there for awhile.
More Pics (not my car). I got it out the door total cost of $27,464.66, not counting that $500 deposit I left. Order was placed over the weekend so we will see when I get the VIN and delivery schedule. I told the dealer who made BIG NOTES that I DO NOT want the front bumper drilled during PDI for the license plate holder. That total price above represent the car, destination, and Appearance Package at invoice price less $200 and includes tax, title, reg., plate transfer, dealer cost, etc. etc.
Update:Was given a delivery date of the week of December 12th about 2-3 weeks ago. Got a call yesterday that the car is going to be here by end of November and I was given the VIN.
Your were provided the VIN number, or they are going to throw in that high margin $189 " dealer option" for free? Looks like the latter. From what I read the invoice on that is 96% of MSRP plus the destination fee so there isn't much wiggle room to dicker. The days of stealing new cars from manufacturers and dealers may be gone forever. Glad I don't have any need to buy anything. My 34 month old '09 Vibe just turned 14,000 miles today. My '07 T&C is just under 15,000 miles. Paid about $17,000 out the door for the T&C and $13,200 for the Vibe. Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end . . .

Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end . . .Getting this car for thousands off was never going to happen. From all the deals I'm seeing being posted around the web I did really well. That $189 for the VIN marking was removed from the cost (see 25,505 + dealer fee 219 = 25,727). I was provided a VIN 3VW... and called up my insurance agent yesterday to plug it in and get me the difference in cost (under $100 on the premium) .I wouldn't know much about wheeling and dealing, I've never bought a new car, this will be my first. My last two were CPO and I got good deals so buying new was a different experience.Quote, originally posted by star_deceiver »That's the tow hook. Many vehicles come equipped with one like that. It screws into the frame behind the little removable cover in the bumper.Correct. Due to the lower clearance of many cars today and the need for them to be flatbedded, the tow hook is hidden behind a trim piece and the eye bolt screws into the frame for them to hook onto. Also used for transporting to tie the car down on the trucks. That car was going through PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection).
WHOOP! Too excited to even work today. Just stopped by the dealer during lunch to check it out and finalize the numbers. Going to pick it up after work!Got 0.9% @ 60mos. without any need to haggle or argue. Without a doubt the easiest buying experience with a car thus far. Here she is sitting in the back lot waiting for me Quick pics taken with iphone but so far I saw no discolored areas, nothing missing (rear valence cover), and NO front plate cover Just one of their badges on the trunk which will come off this weekend.P.S. - Mod can you change the thread title from (finally ordered) to (It's Here), lol

Quote, originally posted by audiovibe »Congrats! I almost ordered the exact same car before I bought my truck!I assume you drove it. What were your impressions. For me being my first NEW car and coming from the Trix it was night and day.
Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to drive it Its an odd story because originally I went to the dealer to inquire about the Golf R, without much research. After viewing the maintenance cost associated with the Haldex and INS cost from the R32's and the fact that no one could give me a solid date on availability I moved on the the GTI. Drove the GTI; loved the GTI; wife hated the GTI and thought I was to old for a GTI. After all that I got addicted to the GLI thread over at Vortex. I read and read Then headed back to the dealership to chat with my VW sales guy. He set me in a Jetta SEL with a performance, and said it will be close to what the GLI will be. I liked the Jetta I just wished the ride was a little stiffer and there was more feedback when driving the car. With the stiffer springs and IRS I believe the GLI would have been what I was looking for, plus I wanted a car that I could take to a track day to fart around and something that I could do basic mods to truley make the car better and enjoyable. The VW supporters make that possible. The thing that changed my mind on the car was my previous to vehicle. I after dumping about $2000 in repairs during last winter and summer my trans gave out while towing the boat, compound that with tring to finish building our hous and needing to pick up supplies such as drywall and landscape blocks I decided to put a car on hold for 3 more years and buy another truck. Maybe in a few years I will get into a CPO GLI, but used Zo6s and Vipers are starting to becoming "affordable" so that is probably the direction I will be leaning.I really do love the cult like following and the fact that VW is really the only mod friendly brand with AWE associated with many dealerships, if I were still in the market for a family sedan with some sport appeal and a potential fun to drive factor the GLI is what I would be driving
Vibe is gone and will be missed as I've gone country style
Forgot to mention what the main reason I was led to the GLI; I wanted a fun to drive car with practicality. Previously the GLI was a 4 door GTI with a trunk. Granted the MKVI was going to be its own machine I was banking on the fact it was going to be between the SEL with sport package and the GTI in the way it performed.
