Ehh, it's about what I expected... it's called early adoption, how much did the first generation iPhone cost? now you can get one for less than a hundred bucks. I think the Volt's platform is the best hybrid platform out there (so far) because a series hybrid is way more efficient... just wait, if this takes off it will be everywhere, for a lot cheaper. Plus, you can actually drive 340 miles in this car (40 all-electric) before you have to go get gas... same as a normal car... no short limits where you have to go plug in again... I like it.

New things are always pricey when they first come out, then the price comes down. How much was your first DVD player if you bought one in the late 90s? How much would that same one be now? Same for CD players. Discmans were over $100...now you can pick one up for $20.

this is just a HUGE waist of money!And with the ratecap that was just lifted electric is SKY highyou can get 50+mpg with biodiesel, it's cheaper and you won't need to search for a freaking plug you can plug your car in to.

Sad, after years of hype to so totally miss where the market for this car lives!It is just another wealthy person's toy. Real people need a car that will operate in the real world.IF Chevy had brought this out to compete in the commuter's car market they would have changed motoring history. As it is, they will be a curious footnote regarding electric hype in the history books.Sad, so very very sad.Dave

Leaf v. Volt is an apples-to-oranges comparison. The Leaf ONLY runs on electric, and only for 100 miles. Not only that, it requires over 20 hours to full charge on a standard 120v current (household). Even a 240v charge is 8 hours. Are you kidding me?! Hate to spend all the money on one of these and not remember to charge the dumb thing the night before for my morning commute. The Volt (as Michelle pointed out) is a series hybrid. The second you go beyond the 40 miles it can run without a drop of gas, a small generator kicks in to give you 300 more miles. No charging to get that range. And charge time? HALF of what the Leaf requires. Which, with only a 40 mile range, it should be, but still. At least the Volt won't shut down on me for lack of charge. I'd love to have a vehicle with zero emissions (not counting the emissions expelled to produce the electricity used to charge it), but baby steps, here. if anything, the Leaf is a decent start for a no gasoline/emissions/oil concept, but the Chevy is more practical. Really similar to the diesel-electric technology that locomotives ALREADY use, only with the addition of the battery thing, and not using diesel. I bet it could be totally awesome if they used a diesel engine since the tech has been perfected on a large scale... I agree the battery is more for the "green" people but it's a much neater concept than the Toyota or Honda hybrids in terms of actually being able to truly run on no gas for any speed up to 40 miles.

Considering how easily people have been willing to part with a lot more than that for their gas guzzling trucks/SUV's, I guess this isn't too bad. At least $20,000 out of my price range though. In the Volt's defense, the $350/mo lease deal isn't too terrible. I'm used to paying a higher payment than that (thanks to years of debt being rolled over from car to car. ) IMHO, leasing would be the way to go with one of these. Who knows what that thing would cost you to fix if it were yours, there are too many unknowns with this thing. Return it and let it be GM's problem after a couple of years. The technology will trickle down to "lesser" cars that us ordinary folks can afford, it always does.

I agree about the leasing, at that price it is the same as what I am paying for my car (well, my loan is a lot lower, but I am trying to pay off faster b.c I took out a really long loan), and leasing is best for unproven technology (no hassle of trying to upkeep when it is old!) though alas no mods allowed...
