The V6 now makes 304 hp and delivers 27 miles per gallon on the highway; the L99 V8 with automatic transmission will hit 396 hp; and production will officially begin February 16, 2009. http://www.popularmechanics.co....html http://www.autoblog.com/2008/0...eveal/I like it!

I've heard too much crap about this car to get excited about it until I see it on the road. It had too much hype about it a few years ago, and now it is still going to be another year or so before they are released?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a beautiful car. However, there has been so much hype about it since Transformers came out, I'm not going to get excited about it until it's "really" here.

While they look cool, the bean counters aren't going to let those console-mounted gauges make it to production. It wasn't such a big deal in 1969, but now with the way everyone is so lawsuit happy, I forsee some douche wrecking his car while looking away from the road to take gauge readings at 120 MPH and suing... All in all, it's a pretty cool car... But too much too late though, it's a really dumb time for the industry to try to be pushing high performance/low MPG vehicles on the public but they keep doing it anyway. This car does little to stir my emotions - honestly, I would show more excitement if GM showed me a 50 MPG car they brought to production instead of this thing. I could never own one anyway due to the whole transformers thing. It would get rather old having people come up to the car and have a transformergasm all over it all the time.

[/QUOTE]They are claiming it will get 27 miles per gallon on the highway. Thats not too bad. Do you know how many years it takes to go from them deciding to build a car to then actually producing it? It's got to be a few years at least I'm assuming. This car was in the pipe line before oil went through the roof. Since MPG is such an issue these days couldn't they offer it in a 4 cylinder too? Would that ruin the cars persona? Was it ever offered in the past with a 4 cylinder?
I've read that the Solstice direct injection turbo 4 banger is being considered. I think this car will sell. Alot of people stilll consider 27 mpg to be reasonable, and gear heads will buy the big engine because they just won't care. Sure, GM is late getting this car on the market, and they might not sell as many as they would if the car was released three years ago, but it will still signifigant.

Just got done taking a Camaro SS with the V8 and 6sp manual for a test drive. This car was awesome! Saw a Challenger SRT while test driving, but he was crossing path, not going same way.
My buddy bought one of these with the V-6 about a month ago and took me for a ride in it. I agree: awesome car. To me, though, it looks like a larger car than I normally consider a sports car to look.
