Was at the local shopping center yesterday afternoon when I saw one from the corner of my eye. Went and checked it out and it looks way better in person let me tell you. It was a nice blue color. Was about to peer in when the owner came by. Had a nice chat with him about his car, and he also said he liked the Vibe as well. Now I am thinking of going and test drive the HHR tonite! Anyone here ever tested one before? Your thoughts?

Personally, I don't like the look... too retro, with the boxy flared wheel wells and the school bus grille. You should go test drive one though, and let us know how it rides and how's the interior space.
Hi Scherry,We are talking about different cars I am talking about the HHR (Heritage High Roof) Chevy (PT Cruiser kinda looking car) and you are talking about the pick up truck

While I like the car it really is a PT Cruiser copy... I checked one out and the similarities are too much. Door handles, window switches (mounted on the dash just one is higher than the other) both have 4 cyl engines, fog lamps, the seating configurations, Even the look to a point, the bulges in rear... I really had to laugh when I saw one parked at Chrysler headquarters in an engineering garage! Blended right in... Most auto companies make "me too" vehicles, it is inevitable. All that said, if people like it as much as I like my PT, Chevy will have a hit on their hands.

The HHR is awesome, I would love to get one based on looks, however, I have not driven one or even sat in one. I think it is a love it or hate it thing as with many cars. I it!

Count me in - I like it [but unless GM makes me a deal I can't refuse as they did on the Vibe I will not be buying in the near future.] Of course I was one of the first to get a PT Cruiser (2001), and also one of the first to get a Vibe (2003). Functionality is high on my list of wants, along with reliability and finally gas economy (last because I don't drive a lot of miles). Most 4 door sedans and SUV's all look too much alike for my taste.

The HHR is actually a very nice vehicle. The Chevy dealer down the street from me was giving away DVD players with every test drive, so I figured what-the-heck? I was quite surprised with how well it drove. It was smooth and quiet...If I didn't like my GT so much, I'd comtemplate one. In comparing the HHR to the Vibe, there are a lot of similarities in terms of functionality, space, and usefulness. While I was driving this one, the saleguy's phone rang...it was another salesguy telling him that it had sold and we needed to bring it back. Must be pretty popular although I don't see a whole lot of 'em.

I saw one in person and thought it looked pretty good. It looks so similar to the PT because the designer of the HHR also designed the PT. He works for GM now.

Test drove one last night and I must say I am pretty impressed. It has a comfortable ride, nice handling. It is not a speed demon but if you get the LT version it comes with 173HP. I really love my Vibe though but this HHR really impressed me much. I have to say the interior is quite roomy. I prefer the Vibes cluster to the HHR but the controls are well placed out. The seats were nice and comfy, it also helped that the test car had leather seats As for the look I like the retro look. It's different and that is what I like, this is the same reason I bought the Vibe 2.5 years ago.I wonder what the employee discount is on this car lol. I STILL LOVE MY VIBE

The best way I can compare the PT to the HHR is to say that the PT was drawn by hand to please the eye; the HHR was drawn by computer to please the accountants! The HHR uses interior space efficiently, very Vibe-like in concept. IMHO, the HHR exterior also looks unfortunately 'efficient', but definitely NOT stylish. BTW: The PT Cruiser front end has a mild redesign for '06...

Have been lusting after a Vibe for 4 months now. Just haven't found the right price/model yet.Just read this post last night and happended to see an HHR in the parking lot at work today. In Fusion! Too a pretty good look at it, and can't beleive it, but I really liked it. May just look a little further into this HHR thing.
Let me correct the color stated in my earlier post. They don't call it Fusion, but Sunburst Orange.Just read a review, and it wasn't entirely glowing. They said a 5'10" person barely had enough headroom. Hmm.....I'm 6'.

Have yet to sit in an HHR though... if I ever end up at a GM dealership, I'll have to.

I probably would have bought one if I could have actually got a deal on one back in the summer. But the employee pricing deal didn't apply to them at the time and they were new so I didn't even bother. The red tag sale now applies to the HHR, on average it looks like a whopping $1K off the various LT1 and LT2 models I've priced. So, somewhere in the $18-$19K will get you a very nicely equipped HHR, like it or not, I think it is safe to say they are better equipped than the Vibe is at a similar price point. *ducks* There's no cool HHR site though, I signed up over at hhr club or whatever but keep getting spammed with them begging me for money. Genvibe rocks. But keep in mind, the HHR with the larger, HO Ecotec DOES REQUIRE PREMIMUM!

Well Gargoyle, what it looks like is a '49 Suburban. That's what that school bus in your photo is and also, from what I've read, Chevy's intent with the HHR.

Was the '49 suburban memorable or classic in some way? Why go back to that?
