note how it says the driver of the pontiac was not seriously injured, no mention of needing to be extricated from the car.

I think the Viber hit a glancing blow to the Acura, bouncing it into a full head on with the Focus, so I'd expect the vibe to be less damaged than the two cars that did the head on. A follow up in http://www.mauinews.com/story.aspx?id=31378 says that the Acura driver died last week.
