Well, you CAN'T be turning 30. You're only 26, I thought.Valentine's Day is the 14th, not the 15th.I'm guessing your marriage certificate from your Labo(u)r Day wedding is finally being mailed, and then arriving???Anniversary of Phil's first trip to Alaska?

Not just any minivan... An extended wheelbase minivan! Gotta have the roooom!

a minivan is unnecessary for a long time (hopefully).

I will never own a minivan. You could not even give me one, I'd burn it.

I have two minivans (and a Vibe.)If you have 1 or 2 kids, SUVs work. once you get to 3+ (I have 4) you are always using the 3rd row seat. Minivans have much better access to the third seat than SUVs. This is actually why I have the Vibe. I had built up 3500 rebate points on my GM card, anticipating a Suburban, but when we actually started looking at them and piling the kids in and out, it was pretty apparent the 3rd row access was a drag. So, back to the minivan, and the GM vans were not well rated for reliability, crashworthiness, etc.So then I've got 3500 rebate points, no Suburban, and my old car is having issues. Along comes a Vibe, basically a Toyota I can use my GM points for. Such a deal!Best wishes on the big move.

And I still plan on putting in a few hours of that a week even after I get a job and all that, I have been transplanted right out of my country where I have lived for almost 27 years. I need to keep some part of my old self so I can keep my sanity lol.I haven't been homesick yet but we'll see...Gotta get my computer hooked to the net someday so I can battle my friends in Diablo 2 haha.

Yeah Mavrik! You'll REALLY be missing paying 25% more for everything and the VAT!

Always surprises me how much it is when I'm there. OTOH I've been to AK just once, but things are a bit pricier there than in the lower 48 IIRC. I was there just before the summer solstice, way cool to be tripping around Anchorage at 10:30 at night with the sun still up. And the permanent fund sure beats a state income tax!

Sales tax depends what province you're in. GST is across Canada and is 7%. In Ontario there's an additional PST which is 8%. Its really not that bad. When I was in New Hampshire and eating in restaurants the prices were actually higher considering the fact that the price looked the same as here in Canada on the menu, but when you factor in the exchange rate, it was even more!

well in many ways like food, we are more expensive. however when it comes to everything else, we're not too far off. plus no sales tax, state income tax, add the pfd bonus in october, higher incomes, etc and not to forget the beautiful scenery here, it's no wonder i fell in love with this place! i've lived and visited 46 of the 50 states, various european countries, asia, and of course canada and mexico. no other place i'd rather live than right here! i love to travel and visit, but..... not live there!besides, phil told me he'd wanted to meet a nice "exotic" girl who liked to travel. ha ha ha! guess he got what he wanted, eh? before he met me, he'd never been more than 1 hr time zone away or on a plane. now he's becoming an accomplished traveler, been to alaska, next month to vegas and seatlle/tacoma, and in may, we'll be taking that long trek up northern canada and the al-can hwy!

Saw two resources (primarily for the RV'er, I think) about traveling the Al-Can and Alaska highways that you might find to be of interest. Here are web links --> http://www.themilepost.com"Trip planner for Alaska, Yukon Territory, British Columbia, Alberta & Northwest Territories." "The Milepost has intricately detailed mile-by-mile descriptions of natural features, road conditions and every possible type of service or supply available... "http://www.delorme.com - software for PDA's... "DeLorme Alaska edition Atlas & Gazetteer..."

All Alaskans can't be complete without their MILEPOST! lol. but we're running into some issues on travel docs. Phil may not be able to leave the US and return while the pwk is pending.... this causes some problems for sure! but we're working on all this, have to call immigration to find out what consitutes "personal emergant" and what proof is required. otherwise, his folks are planning to come up in June and maybe they can drive it up. of course we'd still have to figure out how to get the customs and dmv pwk too. aaaagh!!! this pwk is sooo confusing!!!
