GenVibe Meet 2017

Post by KITT222 »

Ladies, Gentlemen, and Zane.... I am pleased to announce the location and date for GenVibe Meet 2017!

We are meeting in tandem with the HCMO; Hard Core Matrix Owners. Big thanks to Justin Wheeler on this one...

Date: June 2 - 4, 2017
Location: Louisville, KY

Hotel: Red Roof Inn Louisville Expo Airport
4704 Preston Highway
Louisville, KY
40213

From Justin:
Hotel room prices are $76.49/room for 2 full beds w/2 adults, or $72.24 for standard king w/2 adults. You can have up to 4 adults in the 2 full bed room; extra adults are $4.25/ea per night.

To book a hotel room, call 1-800-RED-ROOF and quote block code B118HCMO11 and they'll get you set up.

Since we are doing this with HCMO rooms may go fast, and we may go over out room allotment. Then we would depend upon regular availability.

Location seems quite good, given the GenVibe members map (Link)

For activities we are seeing what's out there, but we may just go with the flow. When in Rome, do as Romans do, and that's how HCMO does their meets. However, our plans will separate come evening time.

The ever-present and fantastic Mr. Zack Byers is helping with the organization.

If you have any questions feel free to let me know. If you have any recommendations, feel free to share those as well.

I am looking forward to another awesome day with some awesome people (and Zane).

Looks and sounds good. Not going to let anything get in my way of a good road trip this time. I should be able to make it. Plus it will force me to finally give my Vibe it's third oil change

Wow that sounds like a fun excuse for a road trip, but it's also way too close to another event I already have planned to attend. Maybe next year! Y'all have fun. :)

Russki- Sorry to get back to you late! We play a lot by ear...It's mostly been a stationary thing. As an example, we hung out at a museum one day last year for most of the day. Then the next day, those of us heading the same direction, did a cruise aka CaraVibe to Bowling Green to the Corvette Museum. I'm not sure how it will work this year as there isn't too much in or around Louisville car related to really cruise to, though we are hoping to incorporate that again this year. Please let us know if you have any suggestions.

Just speaking for myself, I would rather spend the time on Saturday meeting with my fellow Vibe owners and seeing a bunch of Vibes together, rather than going to some museum(s) in Louisville.

If you all would like, I could try to find some place to meet, like a park or something, although I have to say I know next to nothing about Louisville, as I hardly ever go there. But I imagine I am the member who is located closest to this event.

The museums we've gone to were car related. In Nashville, we went to the Lane Motor Museum and toured it as a group. In Pontiac, IL, we've generally gone to the Pontiac-Oakland Museum. Most of these museums are okay letting our small group use their parking lot to meet up and hangout, though meeting up at a park is definitely an option.

There just doesn't seem to be much in the way of car related activities in Louisville. We lived in Knox for 6 years and I consulted with my dad and he doesn't recollect anything really car related. His suggestion was maybe a Cara-Vibe to Mammoth Caves or a similar place for those interested.

FWIW, we didn't go anywhere "car related" in Indy in 2010. We did our usual Friday night dinner. Saturday we spent the day at a park and then did Saturday night dinner. Sunday morning everyone headed home. I'm totally fine with just hanging out at a park or something for the day.

AFAIK, the only car-related museum in the Louisville area is about 45 minutes south of the hotel. It's very popular locally.

Yes, we are considering Swope's. The temporary game plan is to try and go on base and visit the Patton Museum and then cruise down to E-Town to go to Swope's. I don't think Swope's is open on Sunday though so that part is very tenative. Nick should have more info this coming week on what's going to be going on this year.

Just FYI, it is possible to get onto Fort Knox to visit the Patton Museum, but it can be time-consuming. Visitors have to go to the main gate (Chaffee Gate at Bullion Blvd, off US 31-W), and go to the visitor center before you get to the gate. Then go inside and present some sort of government ID (state drivers license should be fine), then go through a vetting process and get a temporary pass, to enter the gate. If no-one else is there to get a pass, this process doesn't take too long, but if other people are waiting it can take an hour or longer.

Good thing is, they are working to open a gate right off 31-W so visitors won't actually go on-post to visit the museum. But I don't know if this will be open by early June or not. I will keep this updated here.

Yeah, I'm aware of the sign in procedure. Though I am a military brat, I no longer have my ID so I have to go through it everytime I go on base when I follow my dad somewhere. I think if we get ahold of the base commander and the gate ahead of time, it shouldn't be too big of an issue.

We have no plans... Going to go free-form. Plan on joining us at the Red Roof. Tim, you should have my number just in case. We can easily try and stick around, then once you arrive we can ship off for lunch or something.
