2012 Genvibe Super Meet location planning

Let's get this going by first suggesting locations. I'll start by suggesting Erie, Pennsylvania. Yes, I live here. There are several places to meet, parks, amusement park, casino, monuments, scenery, and other things to do as well as have a super meet. I would be good for Ohio, New York, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Michigan, New Jersey. I've found that our cars are not drag racers, so, I would assume a more group oriented experience is in order. My two cents. Suggest more please.

Well... that's a little over 2000 miles away... But I'm always down for a good road trip, depending on time off and such...Although my vote would be more "West Coast" orientated

I'm a little midwest biased, but I think Michigan, Illinois or somewhere like that could be a good place mainly because its near the middle of everything. Taking our Canadian Vibers into consideration too Iowa, Wisconsin or... MN might be good. I know of some places that could work if it is near my area south of the Twin Citites. But what about the date? Would it for sure be April 1?

my vote is like indianopolise or something like that. still at least a days drive for me so... yah.

Portland, Oregon... very scenic. Mountains, waterfalls, voo doo doughnuts, large creepy copper statues... we have it all http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/7729Had to try, never going to be able to make a Mid-West or East Coast meet

Indianapolis is in my range of travel. Been to Indy a few times. I could go back. Perhaps a tour of the raceway museum. I know here in Erie, we get a ton of Canadians shopping due to no clothing tax. Lol

I'm probably headed to the northwest again this summer, out to nw Washington, so even if it's a mini, I'd be up to have a get together there or along the way. Other than that I won't be traveling, one huge road trip per summer is all I can afford. Its funny I live in a practical area, about 30 min from the geographical center of the u.s. but there is literally nothing here. There is a nice state park for camping, but city slickers will have a hard time dealing with the remoteness...nearest wal mart is 45 min, although there is a small town close where you could find most necessities.

Erie Pa. would be a good choice. Presque Isle is an awesome park right on the shores of Lake Erie with MANY beaches to hang out at Toledo would NOT be a good location . Somewhere between Illinois & Pennsylvania, Michigan & Kentucky, would be the ideal site for a "midwest" meet. There should then be an East coast meet, and also a West coast meet. I'm game for any location within an 8hr drive from Toledo April would be too early for any such meet. June should be the ideal month. I should be available for pretty much any weekend over the entire summer BUT June will likely be the best month for me.

Erie, Pennsylvania could work for me, just about anywhere could within a reasonable distance, actually. I'd just need the money for the trip, and the approval of the elders. Portland, unfortunately, is just a bit out there for me. My dad gets discounts on hotels, so I guess that wouldn't be too much of an issue. Sleeping in the Vibe is also always a good option too. I'm just excited about the possibility of a super meet.

It would be the most "fair" location in my opinion...I'm open to anywhere really as long as it's within about an 8 hour drive of Sandwich.

It would be good for a scenic road trip or some outdoor activities, to go to the EXACT center of the US would be something to tell your grand children. Especially when the center shifts after California falls off. Like I said, something that isn't racing based. I could see racing if our cars were awesome road warriors, but, our cars are more utilitarian. Therefore, we may want to do like the old VW drivers do. Things like push drags, peoples choice, car decoration, stereo contest, obstacle course, etc.

I would be down for any thing within a days drive. Colorado is real nice..lol

There is a big difference between autocross and all out road course. Autocross is IMO more of a drivers race, as it's not a high speed kinda thing. Perhaps a poker run or road rally at the event would be cool. Something to not so much prove vehicle prowess, but, also be fun for those not into the racing aspect.

If it ends up being close enough to Iowa and during a time where I have a few days off to travel, I'll bring some puppy chow and Sunny D.

I'll sweeten the pot by offering up some cheap beer to those of age, if that does anything to persuade the powers that be to keep this shindig close to Iowa. I'm pretty flexible. Regardless of where it ends up being, it sounds like it will be a good time. Hopefully the location and time works for a good number of people. I look forward to at least seeing some good pictures and hearing some awesome stories.

With next year being the 10-year anniversary of the site, I wonder if having multiple meets planned during the same day would be interesting. Not sure if any tech savvy people could set up web cams or any way to share pics and video on one hosted ftp or a new facebook page so we could see what all the meets are doing... I know time zones would come into play, but I just thought it would be cool to know that multiple smaller meets were going on in the same day. Just a thought, with so many of us spread out.

No matter how we make a connection, it would just be fun to have multiple sites. Like GenVibe Michigan, GenVibe Pennsylvania and so on.It's too bad next year's recurring date is 12.12.12. Be cool to have something of significance like that. I don't think people would wait until 10.11.12 either!

For us northerners those dates would require windows up, sunroofs closed, and additional clothing worn I personally would like to see windows down, sunroofs open, and clothing optional

I'm liking this idea as well, except for the timezone issues. this would mean only the mid-American areas would have a decent gathering time. Pacific would be early and Atlantic would be late. Not that we would have to start late on the east coast, just, to make it happen, we would need to stay later. So far, consensus is for Erie in the East (or North East/mid-west depending on how far this goes). I heard a couple Indianapolis votes, and some Washington/Oregon, A couple Kansas (Center of the USA, kinda cool), an Iowa or two.I think this is a pretty good layout for a multi-event layout. Looking at the maps... How's about Spokane, Washington for the North-west coast meet, Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the North-West, Erie, Pennsylvania for the North-Mid-West, and Albany, new York for the North-East. They are all on Interstate 90!!! LOL In all seriousness, If Erie is a choice, I'll make some calls for places to meet. Presque Isle has Shelters for rent, and beaches for fun. There are a few other places that are good for Car meets depending on the amount of vehicles participating. There is Waldameer Amusement park, the Casino, Penn State, Edinboro (about a half hour south), the docks, downtown, and several other places including schools, and parks.

I've never been to Erie so that would be cool. The distance might be a stretch but, depending on when it is, I can probably stow away enough cash to fund the trip.Sioux Falls would also be very doable for me. I wouldn't mind stopping through Okoboji, IA on the way, anyway. My uncle was inducted into the Iowa Rock N Roll Hall of Fame a few years ago so we all took a trip out there for the ceremony. It was a really fun area. Both suggested options seem like winners to me!

Maybe a webcam-style meet on the 10th anniversary of GV or 10/11/12 or whenever, but the physical meet in June in Erie or someplace near there. I have no issue with Erie, but I would like it somewhere closer (probably just like everyone else) but I won't complain if Erie is put down as the official location. Any other objections to Erie or maybe a better place in mind?

I'm kinda likeing the multiple events, then more people get a chance to attend at least one. I would be happy to be the south central location, if anyone had an inkling to come to the middle of nowhere lol.

It would be easier to plan for multiple events. If you don't want to drive far, there would be something within a set range to meet your needs. On a side note, my wife attended Edinboro University and said she would call to see about getting parking lot space for us to meet in. She also would be willing to look into hotels in Edinboro for people to stay at, at a discounted rate (hopefully). if not in Edinboro, she said she would try to find a suitable location and lodging for a meet. Edinboro is about 30 minutes from Erie to the south.I'd be willing to help set things up, but, I'd need some help getting ideas for things to do while at the event. I've been to several car shows/meets, but never set one up. I'm going to search on line and start getting ideas. I just need a go ahead, and perhaps some other people willing to "sponsor" other events. Before anything official goes into action, I also need to talk to the site leaders. since this is ultimately their call on a Genvibe meet.My wife will start making calls as soon as we get the word.

Wow. We have ourselves a HIGHLY motivated GenVibe member ready & willing to take on this challenge of setting up a meet for us to attend next year Congrats on stepping forward to help organize such an event. Not bad for a newbie who has only been a member for just under two months. Keep this motivation up that you have and you will get LOTS of support from members like myself up to the day of the meet With the holiday's right around the corner, it would be best to seriously head up this project after the first of the year when we all can focus on a new year and all the possible events in our lives. Getting rough ideas right now is certainly a good start. Heck you even got Michelle (ponta2147) to crawl out of the woodwork and get back onto this site The Indy meet in 2010 was excellent and I'm sure whatever meets we can coordinate will be even better in 2012

Thanks. I've been into cars since I was a small child. I've traveled all over the country for as long as I can remember to go to Volkswagen shows throughout the years. My first born son was 5 days old when he attended his first car show. A proud moment in my life. For a long time (about 10 years) I haven't been able to enjoy going to a meet or other event. Marital bliss (ex-wife) kept me from the hobby I enjoy. With the Vibe, I feel good about a car, like when I had a drive able VW. I still have my VW, but, it's far from roadworthy. The Vibe is a car that is fun like my bug is, not quick, not fancy, but it has a heart. I don't have to make it something it isn't, force it to go fast, make it try to beat a super car, or put it out there like a show car. I could take it to the Tail of the Dragon and enjoy both the ride AND the scenery. I may be new to this family, but, I an old dog in the car lovers game. This event would be a privilege and an honor to put together. I'm just out to have a good time with those who share in my passions.

This topic kind of died :-( Just an idea if there is still a choice to be made for the meet.. Vegas is always fun... And for people that dont want to make a drive they do insanely cheap flights in? I know you wont have your car but you'll be able to attend.. Plenty of cool photo spots, cheap hotels, fun events, ect... (Example of the cheap flights Miami FL to Vegas = $89 round trip)
