I just bought 2008 Vibe and the hood has several stone chips with rust and there is a one inch scrape with rust starting to form. I might sell it in a year or two and want it to stay in good shape for me and next owner. I'm assuming I need to take it to body shop for repairs. Does any one have suggestions or experience with this? Also the black part of wheels under hub caps have rust on them (only 2 which is weird). How do I fix that? Thank you
You could go get the hood repainted or done through insurance. Or you can get a bottle of touch-up and spot the areas. Just dab the paint on the chips and let it stay, do not paint like a wall. Let it dry completely and wetsand the area with very fine paper VERY WET to get the bubble down to hood surface level. Then buff out the swirls and apply polish and wax.
Wet sanding will remove rust spots as well. It's a special type of sandpaper you can find at most auto or home improvement or paint stores. You basically get two buckets of water, dip the paper in one and sand the area. Then dip it in the second bucket to clean the paper off. Use the first clean bucket to re-wet. I keep a dish rag handy to wipe the area every so often. You want to keep the area wet too.
