You Are Now Equipped With: LED HEADLIGHTS & FOGLIGHTS

Post by chrispbacon »

Yesterday I changed out the regular halogen headlights & foglight bulbs on my Vibe to nice LEDs. I also wet sanded and used headlight haze remover and the headlights look much better now because they were an ugly yellow before. Unfortunately I didn't take a night time before picture with the halogen bulbs but (removed) it looks way better now. Street signs are much easier to see now and look more reflective. And when I turn on the fog lights it creates a nice aura outward. Its a nice blueish color. 6500K. I'm so glad I switched. :D

Yes, but what does it do to the drivers you are behind, and oncoming drivers?

That's one of the big issues - there ARE other people on the road.

I wasn't going to be the first one to bring that up ... BUT you have a very valid point!!! Drivers either behind you who BLIND your sight due to the lights, or oncoming traffic. It's a real problem and I'm just glad not too many cars have retrofitted to these lights yet!

Who did you find to aim the lights when you were done installing them? What method or equipment did they use to aim the lights?

My eyes! I'd recommend a proper headlight retrofit.

I looked on the headlight housing and saw there was a screw with like a toothed wheel and I think this is how you adjust the headlights. I saw the same mechanism on the foglights as well. This weekend Im going to play around with it to see if it adjusts the angle of the headlights and if so angle them.

Haynes repair manual for Matrix/Vibe has the headlight adjustment procedure on page 12-12. I don't know how good it is, but better than nothing.

One of my peeves though is people driving with fog lights on when there is no fog... just causes more glare, no particular need.

I would agree in most cases, but I use my fogs as my DRL since I disabled the DRL.

Yeah I dont drive with the foglights on.
I use the foglights when I'm driving through areas with lots of potholes. Helps me figure out if I have to dodge, slow down, or pray

Did you have any trouble installing with the clips securing them in the housing with the heat sink in the way or did they fit right in? Also, what's your opinion of these, now that you've had them for a while? Thanks.

The clip will be a PITA to get over the heatsink, speaking from a similar experience.

As for the quality, I cannot attest. :D

I've decided to try out 3 different brands of high end halogen bulbs first to see how I like them. I realize the life will be short, but don't really care. Not hard to change. Trying these.
1. Philips RacingVision +150%
2. OSRAM Night Breaker Unlimited +110%
3. SYLVANIA SilverStar ULTRA
(may return, poor reviews)
4. GE Nighthawk Platinums
5. Philips Xtreme-Vision +100 (added)
After reading lots of reviews and watching tons of videos, these 3 seem to be the top ones for halogen. I'll update with which one I like the best, if anyone is interested.

Bulbfacts.com and also, username m3rovingian https://www.youtube.com/user/sorcerer21ro/videos on Youtube has alot of great comparisons.

The Philips RacingVision +150% are a very highly rated bulb. Many on the GenVibe Facebook page also recommend these and have ran them for a few years with good success..

Agreed on the Silverstar bulbs. They are junk and burn out pretty quickly. Good news is, they have a 1 year manufacturer warranty. So keep the receipt and packaging and return it to place of purchase or manufacturer and get them replaced.

So installed the Philips Racingvision last night. I love the brightness of the low beams. The high beams are meh. Dont care for the slight blue tint. If they could take off that crap blue tint the bulb would be perfect!

So my results are....
Best...................1A. Philips Racing Vision + 1B.OSRAM Night Breaker Unlimited (Pretty much a tie) (Very very slight preference for Philips RV)
Runner Up............2. Philips Xtreme Vision +100 (slightly yellower but close to above 2, still below)(although I like Hi-beam color)
Last....................3. GE NightHawk Platinum (even more yellow, but dimmist of them all)

Here a some pics I took. I tried to darken them to try to see the difference better and they are kind of out of order, but you get an idea.
