OEM Roof Rack Questions

Post by melriv »

I just got a 2008 Vibe, primarily cause I thought the built in roof racks extra flexibility is more appealing than not. Anyways, I'm now reading this roof rack has pretty low weight restrictions and now that I have it looks like mounting, say a surf board, probably isn't going to work since the rack isn't the full length of the vehicle?

Anyone just added an extra roof rack bar to the car to make that work??? If I were to remove the OEM rack does this leave huge holes or what?

Removing the rack does leave holes in the roof, and due to the shape of the sheet metal it looks awkward.
Aerogear made "roof rack replacement caps" to smooth out the metal, but I can't seem to find them for sale in a quick search.

Hopefully, someone can chime in on holding surf boards to the stock rack. My 06 doesn't have the stock cross bars either.

Edit: RKSport has CF ones
