my work in progress

Post by leemur »

Some decals are done with mylar and need to be replaced as soon as I can get some vinyl supplies. There are ones for the hood that need to be created also. Living in the boonies is rough sometimes.Yes, those are the stock hubcaps. This was the beginning.

Nice graphics (big fan of tonal greys), killer color scheme! What other mods have you done to it? It's a vibe version of this:http://www.zcars.com.au/userim...1.jpg

No mods other than K&N filter. I do have the mudflaps. Vibe rubber cargo mat, and the tires are 215/60-16's.The drawbacks to the tires are that it downshifts more on the freeway on small hills.I'd thought about racing stripes like a mustang or camaro but wanted to be a bit more subtle.I'm looking for wheelwell molding but it need to be 2" wide and so far I've only found 1 1/8" stuff.

I'm really impressed! Other than the grille color that I'm not certain of, it all goes together really well. How did you paint the wheel covers?

I tend to be more subtle with application, but the color scheme is killer.

It took 45 min to an hour to sand each one down, then just primer and burnt orange engine paint. I used engine paint because that's all I could find in that color. It's been about 5 or 6 weeks and they are still looking fine. I bought cheap hubcaps for winter. The blacked out sections of the hubcaps I talked about two years ago. Just the blacking out of the rectangle and triangle sections makes the wheels look a million times better. (see avatar). The night pics show the hubcaps better as you only see a thin circumference line and not the depth of it. I'll have to get one hosted and posted.

The scheme is actually my rendition of the "Citreon DS3 Race." Google it and you'll get pics and vids of it. Very cool car...not sold in America.I didn't want to paint my entire roof orange so I used the orange graphics rather than silver.Total investment so far...$126. That's a cheap price and it DOES turn heads. I need to get busy and finish it. Window tint is on the list but I won't do it local as the jerks wouldn't sell me any vinyl to cut out my designs. "We have a minimum charge of $30." That for a 6" x 12" piece of vinyl I'd asked for. They are too big to work with a little order.

The wheels turned out great - I love that color and am surprised it is engine paint. How did you get the vinyl graphics to match?

I think I agree with you about the roof - it would not have looked as good as the Citroen.I wish I could do some photoshopping as I've been trying to visualize blacking out most of the hood, the roof and the rear gate. I thought the hood would be cool to black out to the edge where it sweeps up into the fenders, and then have a "2.4L" diagonally on the driver's side kind of like the old "340" Plymouth Duster had in the 70's.

I like the idea of a Duster 340 look. Flat black looks great on a hood. I always liked the dual hood scoops that were on some 340's.My citreon decals came from a web site in England, stree-race.org. Not every decal was in the set and those I did with R/C Airplanewrap, not working out for the car body but fine for the wheel covers. The hood decals will be the words DS//CR.A355 2010 along the same hood bend you mentioned and readable from the opposite side of the hood.
