2009 Roof Rack Removal

Post by onegriggabyte »

Hello everyone. I was trying to find information on this and was unable to get detailed instructions so I thought I would pass the information on. This kind of rack was only installed on the 09-10 Vibe. ( unfortunately, these were the last two models ever made.)Too remove the rack you first need to remove the plastic top cover. This is preformed by applying outward pressure on the cap. ( toward the side of the car) Once removed you have direct access to the bolts that attach it to the roof of the car. Once removed, it leaves 4 gaps in the rubber track on the roof. I ordered the caps from the Pontiac dealer for around $8 a piece. If anyone is interested, I can supply pictures of the rack.

I bought the 2009 Vibe with the roof racks as well. (It's not AWD). I wanted the racks for possible plywood transport from the Depot. However, with all the snow that I've been getting since I owned the car, as well as washing the car, it became a pain to remove the snow off the roof with them in the way. It's hard to get a brush or a sponge under the racks. So I may remove my as well, I have the big service books to tell me how to remove them. Thanks for saying what the price of the trim caps cost.If you requesting, I could make a PDF copy of the page from the book and post it if you need it. But I thought you took them off?Is it easy or hard to remove the plastic support bracket covers? I just can't understand where to start to pop them off. Also do you use the same bolts to seal the bolt holes in the roof?

Do you wanna sell your 09-10 rack for a reasonable cost? I'm interested in buying.

I have not decided if I will do it. I will purchase the track covers first, Then I still will think hard before I do it. And, If I do remove them, I may still keep them if I want to use them once in a while. Anyway I will keep you in mind. The price I paid for the roof rack (factory installed option) was $395.00 One thing you should be aware of and that is that the plastic covers that cover the brackets matches the body color. My are Silver. The rack bars are a natural aluminum finish.

I purchased the caps, but it looks like there needs to be something else for them to click into. Can you look into your book and see what it says about the clips??Thank You!Justin
