Mystery Part

Post by Mojo72 »

A few days ago I found two parts lying in the snow where my Vibe had been parked and I have no idea where they came from or if they actually dropped from my Vibe at all. Does anyone in Vibe Nation recognize these parts? I photographed them separate and joined in a manner that seemed appropriate. Thanks!

For some reason, I couldn't upload a zip file, so I attached a jpg to my original post and another to my second post. I hope that works.

Looks like a ball joint: But I'm no expert... I was looking for a swaybar link bolt at first...

I don't believe it is a ball joint. Some sort of strut mount maybe.

The metal was fairly oxidized with no sign of clean metal indicating it might have just broken off. I don't think clean metal would have rusted over within 24 hours by just lying on the snow.

It is a broken sway bar link to the front lower control arm. Odds are is it not off of your car but I'd take a look to be sure.I'd bet that you hire someone with a snow plow to clear your driveway. It fell off of his truck on a pass. Here is a picture of the whole unit, you only have the bottom portion, it snapped off and the two rubber bumpers along with a portion of the steel shaft fell off. Keep in mind this is a replacement with the metal sleeve, factory originals were often steel turned down to different diameters.Dave

I clear my own snow, but the parts were on the driveway approach so it could possibly have been someone using my driveway to turn around. I'll take a look at the control arm, but I'm curious as to how drivable the car would be without the sway bar link.

dave is correct it's a sway bar endlink, it's not from your car though. Our sway bar end links look nothing like that.ours look like this
