Help! I need a set of correct lug nuts for 2008-10 Vibe 16" steel wheels...

Post by honda3504f »

Help!! I need a set of the original 12mm x 1.5 lug nuts that go with the standard 16" steel wheels for my 2009 Vibe 2.4. I was told that the 2008-2010's are different than previous years, and have a larger outer thread diameter (27mm?) for the plastic wheelcover nuts. Does anybody have an original set from their 2008-2010 Vibe that they no longer need, and would like to sell? I have taken the alloy wheels off for the winter, and have 4 steel wheels with snow tires ready to go. Now I cannot put the wheelcovers on, without the right lug nuts! The local Pontiac dealer is quoting a rip-off price for them, and the local auto parts stores don't yet have them (they only have the more common ones for 2007 and earlier Vibes). Thanks, Dave

Based on my experience working in Toyota service dept, you can try going to junkyard and search any 92-96 Camry/95-99/Avalon/Previa lug bolts for aluminum rims those nuts are precise fit to your vibe.. hope this helps

Let me know if you find them. (or anyone else) I, too, need 20 of them, 27mm outside thread. Thanks!

Yes, GM wants a fortune for them!

Keep an eye on the For Sale/Wanted Forum. I lucked out and scored a full set of brand new OEM lug nuts from a member for about $25.00. I scored a second set from a local member in exchange for some universal-type lug nuts I had.

FYI, the steel wheel/wheel cover-specific lug nuts are the same on all 2003-2010 Vibes. Also, the GM part number is: #88972746. Worst case scenario, you may want to check out the price for a full set on GMPartsCenter.net. They offer good discounts on their GM parts compared to dealer prices and they also offer free shipping (although you do pay an $8.95 handling fee).

I don't think those ebay ones are right. The hex size should be 21mm not 19.

I did not know that the stock ones are 21mm. I bet it is probably wrong info in the listing, and that would be something to ask the seller about. But if they are 19mm, that means you would need to use a different lug nut wrench. I carry a 4 way wrench, so it has several different sizes.

If you're still looking, it may be worth looking at local auto parts stores. I know we carry GM-style lugnuts at my work (the ones with exterior threads) in various sizes for like $1.50/ea. Not the cheapest option but you'll know you'll be getting clean, new lugnuts with straight threads.
