silverstar ultra

Just stopped into my local Auto-zone and saw that they had silverstar ultra head lamps. Does anyone know anything about these? Are they worth $49 a pair (less a mail in rebate)? I've had silverstars before and was very happy with them. Let me know!

Those are almost 2x the cost of the regular Silverstars. Hope they last twice as long and are twice as bright. Othewise they wouldn't be worth it.

The original $ilver 's weren't worth the asking price, IMHO. Sight unseen, my thoughts are these probably aren't either. But that's just me. LOL! I just hope they are longer lasting for that kind of money.They may be bright, but replacing them twice a year sure did suck. I don't mind the dim bulbs so much anymore, they'll last for years. LOL!

I haven't heard much from anyone about these (on this site or others) but I figure I'll be the guinea pig and give them a try. I had to have them specially ordered so I will let everyone know how they turn out and how long they last. I have no experience with the original Silverstars so I have nothing to really compare it to but I'm hoping for at least a year out of these Mike

I will never buy another Sylvania Silverstar product. I spent around $40 on them, then they only lasted 6 months in my Impreza. http://www.gmperformancetuning...=3391 Piaa for life.

i still have mine! they are about 6+ months old.Not saying they are the best, but they are still doing the job, and i hope to have some HIDs in the near future if $$ allows me too. (xmas present for me) How much do the piaas run? last?

I put a set of PIAA's in my Grand Am 3+ years before my couson totalled it. Also had PIAA's in my WRX for a little less than a year before I traded it. Put a set in my Mom's Geo Metro last Christmas, and they're still burning strong.I normally see them on eBay for $50-80.

Oh it's 50-80 a pair. I've seen them go for about $30-35 for singles.

I had a pair of 9004 silverstars in my 94 cavalier back when the silverstars first came out. I never had them burn out in the five years that I had them in the car. I then bought an 04 cavalier and put them in a week after I got that car had those in for 3 years with out a burn out.I have had nothing but good luck with the silverstars.

i had silverstars in my Z, and loved em. unfortunately, i murdered the car before they had a chance to burn out, so i don't really know how long they coulda lasted.but yeah i'd like to see how much better the ultra's are compared to the regular ones. maybe i'll buy one of each and try em out with pics, then return the one i'm not happy enough with and buy the match

For that price, do they come with free dinner for a year? I liked my Silverstars I used to have, but they were pricy and I didn't get anymore of those.

I was at my local AutoZone and they had the Silverstar Ultra available for the Vibe along with a $10 mail-in rebate for a 2 pack. I currently have the regular Silverstars in and like them well-enough. As soon as they burn out (which should be fairly soon based upon what I've read) and I will give these a shot and report back.Mike

i just installed a pair yesterday afternoon..definatly much whiter IMO...anything that has reflector quality, example: Speed limit and other signs....are brighter and also IMO are easier to read..... now...ive never had experiance with any silverstar product to my knowledge until now.....supposedly the ultras are supposed to last longer than the regular silverstars....ill let you guys know how long they last....

supposedly HID's arnt able to have the full effect..unless you replace the entire headlamp housing?...dunno..thats why i chose not to get the HID "conversion" kits....

The HID bulb, brightness and beam angle? Replace the headlight housing with what? Projectors? HIR is a simple design, take a headlight bulb, make it bulbous instead of capsule. Coat it with a Infrared film. Viola! Same 55W bulb but all of the IR light is reflected back onto the filament causing a brighter burn without more power usage, you still get the longevity of a stock bulb, but with 80% the light output of an HID! I love mine!

Back to the silverstar thing... best bulbs I ever owned. Everyone says they don't last, but they were in my Vue for almost 4 years before they blew and I spent 10-15 hours a week driving in the dark. Can't wait to go and blow a wad of cash on the new ones. Sometimes Sylvania releases rebates for 15-20$'s on them.

i had the regular silverstars in my sunfire..from what i was told their isnt much difference between the two..other then one "out lasting" the other...i had my silverstars for 4 yrs and never had a problem with them..never burnt out and were pretty bright
