The light is emitted when the ballast and ignitor ignite the gas int eh capsule. HID requires a conversion, and can cost several hundred dollars.silverstars are touted as "the look of HID" when realistically, their colour temperature is 4000°K, while most HIDs operate at a colour temperature minimum of 5300°K. In other words, even compared to HIDs, silverstars are yellow.Quote »and how much more rougly do they cost then regular replacement bulbs Expect to spend $40 - $50 for a set of headlights, and $30 - $40 for a set of fogs. It is likely you'll be replacing them every few months as well.Quote »and when i go to buy them what kind does the vibe take for the main lamps (high and low) and the fog lamps. what numbers am i looking forHead: H4 or 9003 (same bulb, different code)Fog: 9006

From what I have seen they cost about $20 more per pack. A lot of people say they only last a year.

Mine lasted 8 months and I have the DRL's disabled. I liked them though...haven't gotten around to getting another set though.Isn't 4000K an extremely high amount of heat???

That's colour temperature, not actual temperature. How it works is, if a light gives off 4000°K colour temperature, it means that flame would have to burn THAT hot to produce that same colour.
