Largest Tires 2008 Base Model

I have a base model 2008 that I love, the lower plastic skirting reminds me of my Jeep Wrangler. I currently have 18" black rims with 245/40's on them which was at the very edge of possibly rubbing, which it does not. Unfortunately this did not fill out the wheel well as I had hoped so my question is how do some of you guys get larger sets in there? I've seen some older posts with some massive tires and is that due to maybe a heatgun forming the front tire well plastic?
