Will these Sunfire GT rims fit my '09 Base?

Post by CanadianJ »

Hey Guys! First post here - will get some pics of my Vibe up ASAP.

I've spent some time searching through past posts and couldn't find an answer.

I'm looking to upgrade my steely and hubcap combo to these rims from a Sunfire GT. I realize the bolt pattern is 5 x 100 so will fit, but not sure on caliper spacing etc.

Any thoughst?

I don't see why not. They take the same size tires and have a similar offset and backspacing. You can clear the calipers with some 15" wheels so I'd be very surprised if any 16s had problems.

Thanks for the response. I understand bolt patterns but not much about spacing etc.

I found a great deal on these so figured they would look better than the hubs.

Just a note for future reference.

These rims did not even come close to fitting my Vibe. I did my research and for all purposes they should have fit.

There is a difference in the centre bore of the Sunfire vs. the Vibe but everything else was the same. I took them to a mechanic friend and we pulled a tire off to mount and the caliper was touching but I had almost no bolt showing through. If we were to add spacers to push out the rim I would have been left with 2-3 threads showing.

My friend was confused and thinks that perhaps my caliper/rotor structure was changed when the used car dealer redid these before purchase.

Damn! This has turned into a hassle.

Any thoughts?

Sell 'em and keep looking! When you're looking at new rims, bring a jack and try to fit them right away.

I'm worried now that something has been changed with my wheel studs or calipers, as according to everything I've read these should have fit.

Not sure what to do as most times the rims are for sale on craigslist etc. and I don't have the tools to take off the wheel. I can't possibly be expected to live with the stock hubs and covers can I?

The ID of those rims looks just a hair too small and that dimension isn't often listed. Same with the lug stud holes to base.

The Calipers/rotors on the 2.4L Vibes were bigger but also 5x114 so I doubt they would have used those.

And you've got your spare ire jack and tire iron to swap one out quick!

I wonder if something like this would do the trick...

If your studs are barely showing when you hit the calipers a spacer is just going to make it worse. It sounds like the inner diameter of those is just too small. Unfortunately that's one thing that is really poorly documented when you look at wheel measurements online.

Ok, just updating this in case anyone runs into the same issue.

I took the rims into a speciality tire store just to make sure they didn't fit before I try to sell them.

They tried a 1/4 inch spacer and the rim was BARELY touching the caliper, but just enough that it didn't work. At a 1/2 inch spacer they ran out of enough stud to keep it safe.

Too bad!

Up for sale they go.

I'm looking for some Rim/Tire deals on the cheap and I've been cursing trying to get all the info from anyone with a vague ad on Kijiji...

Seems more difficult than I originally thought! Tire prices are bad enough, but trying to up the size to an 18" rim has got me comparing, calculating and cursing up a storm!

I'm going through the exact same thing! I ask 4 questions and I get an answer to 1.

You'd think people would want to move the stuff they have for sale.

I'm surprised as well.

I ended up picking up these guys today. They are 17" and I have no idea what brand. Crossing my fingers that they fit!
