'06 AWD ALB hub assembly

Post by blankmonkey »

I have a low pitch grinding noise from the back, after a 100$ inspection, a mechanic told me it was the LR hub assembly. They want 900$ to fix it. So I start looking around, but I can seem to find1) the haynes manual on an AWDor2) the part, that is not 370$ from the dealer. Also I see here there is some possibility that this may be the differential.Does anyone have some input here? someplace I may be able to get an hub assembly? Should I risk using a junkyard one?

Attached is the service manual page on how to do this. Good gravy that looks complicated. Some people will knock ebay hubs, but they're inexpensive, new and depending on the seller usually carry a warranty. I replaced a hub on my wifes car last year with an ebay unit for 1/2 the price I was finding elsewhere, with zero problems so far.

The front has to be pressed out and back in and that's IF you can get the snap ring out...

Oh yeah it looked like the rear calls for a press too but I guess that's just for the dust shield. Bolt on is the way to go, they should have done that for the front too.

I think I have actually found the whole manual, but I can seem to find anything in it, the whole structure is super vague with meaningless numbers. how did you find the right section???
