canadave's 2004 base Vibe - meet "Ginger"!

Post by canadave »

Just got Ginger home yesterday after buying it from a private seller. The guy was a neat freak--the car was undercoated every year with liquid film, and it's in immaculate condition. My wife (who's going to be Ginger's main driver) thinks she's gorgeous, and I have to agree!

I'm not a huge modder, and not all that handy mechanically, but some of the things I want to do at some point soon:

-- swap out antenna for shorter version
-- change out radio for GPS/DVD/MP3 double DIN head unit (are those ebay ones for $200 any good?)
-- get a cargo net (groceries need to stay put)
-- possibly tint the aft windows (can't do the front windows unfortunately, due to Nova Scotia law)

Welcome to GenVibe Dave :D Very sharp looking Vibe and definitely in the BEST color! Nice rims also. Will those rims see winter driving or do you have a set of steelies to sacrifice to the harsh winter driving. Also that undercoating system that you Canadians use (Krown rust control) is totally worth it. Wish they offered it here in the states. FYI ... they brought back that awesome color as "ignition Orange" for the 2010 model year and is very rare. Production only ran 5 months until they stopped production permanently :( Treasure your ride and visit here often ;)

hehe, thanks! Yes, the fellow who sold it to us also sold us a set of winter tires that came with the stock rims, and we're definitely going to be changing over to the stocks for our harsh winter.

I had a look under the car when we bought it, and the bottom of it is practically in mint condition. That liquifilm stuff is amazing. The only thing I can't really understand is that he also did the same process to under the HOOD. So when we lifted the hood to have a look at the engine, the weatherstripping rubber was totally peeled off. I was like, "what happened here?" and he said, "yeah, sorry, the liquifilm process made that all come off, that's the one downside to it." I'm not entirely sure why they did that on the underside of the hood, but, oh well. I wonder if there's a way to cheaply replace that weatherstripping rubber piece?

Anyway, I'm no pricing expert, but I think we got a pretty good deal for $5,500. Mint condition 2004 in, as you say, the coolest colour ;) My wife is in love--I think I better buy her some flowers, or she might leave me for the car! lol

Welcome to the forum

You may want to reconsider the short antenna...reception often sucks with them. I had an eBay one on my yaris when we lived in Fredericton and we got 3 stations

Thanks. Yeah, I'm definitely looking at something shortER, but not SHORT. From what I've read, the Honda antenna seems to have pretty decent reception while still being shorter.

My main project I want to get started on though is a new radio. I'd like to get one of those $200-$300 Chinese GPS/DVD/Bluetooth/etc units from ebay, but I've no idea which ones would work best, or even for that matter if an install shop would know how to handle it. I imagine the local shops are more used to standard units from Kenwood/Pioneer/Alpine and so on.

Nice Vibe! I had a co-worker that had a Vibe that exact color and she really liked it. Glad to hear it did well through the Nova Scotia winters. Nice rims they look great on the 1st generation Vibe.

Great looking Vibe, love the color, rims look great, there should be a place in Halifax that can take care of the chinese decks if you go that route, unfortunately I have no idea what would work best with that type of deck.

Welcome to GenVibe Dave! Very nice looking Fusion Vibe you've got there ;)!

We have the Honda 7" antennas (#39151-STK-A01) on both our 2009 Vibe GTs and love them. We have not seen any affect on reception.

I just recently installed the short antenna (same vibenvy rec's) and it is great; of course, Im in Houston so its not that big of a challenge.

The car is lovely, that color and the white aka frosty are my fave 1st gens... I'm really surprised everyone likes those rims, i would immediateoy sell those and get thick spoke rims. Those rims are ugly and don't match the tone of the 1st gen with its thick cladding. Not trying to demean your purchase, just my opinion.

But that color is awesome...
