Welcome to GenVibe! Very nice looking Liquid Platinum Metallic GT you've got there (I may be slightly biased :P)! It's good to hear the Vibe is adjusting to that frigid Alaska weather. What have you done to your Vibe besides the obvious interior lighting? Do you have any future plans for it?

Thanks for the welcome :) i was just looking through the pics of your vibe

i bought it for my birthday sep 2011 and the only thing ive done so far is install the HID headlights/foglights, the interior LED kit, White LED's replaced all the normal lights on the inside and the plate light and i had to have the car winterized here with a trickle charger, oil pan heater and transmission fluid heater (i believe). I don't know much about vehicles to be honest, im a network administrator but i love driving my vibe. I call my vibe "El Jefe" (means "the boss" in spanish)

LOL! It's cool to see another Liquid Platinum Metallic GT on here. Surprisingly there aren't that many on here that post regularly.

It sounds like you've got all the lighting covered :P! I've changed out pretty much all the lighting on mine too. The one last thing I need to get is some LED bulbs for the reverse lights.

Can't go wrong with an Optima under the hood !

So, do you plan to do anything else to it?

I'm planning to do a custom paint job in the near future along with a performance upgrade to the exhaust. But im debating because i was in talks recently to purchase another vehicle (pic below) which would tie up my fun fund for a bit.

Installed K & N cold air intake (Thanks vibe envy for the parts numbers and such, easily available on amazon and shipped to a PO box here in Alaska)
midinstall.JPG
midinstall.JPG (51.72 KiB) Viewed 5655 times

and I also got installed a rockford fosgate 1000 5chanel DB watt amp with a kicker 17 Inch Comp R in a case in additional to the monsoon 10inch built into the panel in the back, alpine tweeters and speakers in the front and rockford fosgate speakers on the back doors with built in tweeters. (i was originally going to get all rockford punches but i found it would sound better if i replaced the stock tweeters and got speakers without tweeters in the front (a lil bit cheaper) and the rockfords in the back) and a Pioneer FH-X700BT deck(has prettylights, sounds great and a cool feature called mixtrax that mixes up music from the 64 gig thumbdrive i left on there). I had originally planned on putting a box in the back with two 12's but after testing it out with just one 17 inch i found it was plenty. heck if i turn it up loud my rearview mirror titls downward while im driving but it is a ton of fun (especially if you are into dubstep music)

I will take better pics of the finished K & N installed and such and some pics of the sub and amp setup in the car.

Also coming next will probably be new exhaust system. I'm not a car guy, just a network engineer trying to make his vibe into a spaceship lol so if anyone has any suggestions, it would be appreciated. i saw online earlier while googling a magnaflow kit for the car any thoughts?

The intake looks great! Glad I was able to help you out with the part numbers and all. That's exactly why I have them listed in my Garage thread!

Magnaflow does make a direct bolt-on cat back exhaust for the 2009-2010 Vibe GT. I have thought about getting it, but I worry it will be too loud and my Vibe sounds so good right now with just the intake. I had a couple different Magnaflow exhaust setups on my former 2002 Pontiac Sunfire GT Coupe and they were always kind of loud and would get pretty raspy at higher RPMs. For $500.00+, I think I'll just stick with what I've got now.

After installing the intake, did you have to get a remap done? I have been told by several people i work with that it is necessary in order for the car to get the right air/fuel mix in.

Nope. Not at all. Prior to the installation, you are supposed to disconnect the negative battery cable. Doing this re-sets the computer which is all that's needed.

so thats why that was in the instructions lol so i guess it wont do any harm to do it after the fact right? if i just disconnect the negative battery cable and reconnect it, it will still reset it.

i am just learning about all this car stuff, ill admit to not knowing anything at all prior to messing with the vibe, even learned to change the oil recently lol

I have always just taken my car to a shop to get such things done, but here in alaska being remote and working nights, i have had to do a lot on my own time on my own or with friends to help.

Welcome to GenVibe :D ..... even if it's six months later :o Don't know how I missed this one earlier. Just curious if your steering wheel audio controls still work with your new Pioneer head unit? I hear it is almost impossible to mate that feature to aftermarker units. Also I'd assume you did not use the Siruis/XM feature or the overpriced OnStar. Up there you may want to get a different set of rims & winter tires ... although your winters there are probably 8 months long as compared to4-6 months down here. Nice ride so far ;)

Hey thanks for the welcome :)

Actually i did get the steering wheel controls to work, its like a 50 dollar part (ill get the part number on here off my receipts) but the onstar did not work afterwards, that requires like a 200 dollar/ish adapter and i didnt pay for it so it didnt really matter or the sat. radio service. With a 64 gig thumb drive, an ipod touch and a few mixed cd's im pretty much covered on the music i like.

The summers here are only about 2 maybe 3 months long, winter starts around September and last till about June. I have winter tires (Goodyear ultra ice) which work fine for me, i should have gotten different rims for the winter since mine are kinda worn a bit now from last winter (went into a few ditches with my low profiles on my first days here from florida) so i figured im going to leave those stock ones on and use em up and get new rims once i find myself in the lower 48. Looking to move to Colorado or Cali. will know by November.

Yeah, that's why it was in the instructions ! As long as the Vibe is running fine, I wouldn't be too worried about it, but if it starts running weird or you get a check engine light or something, I would definitely disconnect the negative battery cable and let it sit for about 30 minutes before hooking it back up.

No time like the present to start learning ;)! And you always have your fellow GenVibers here to help with any questions, issues, etc. you may have !

Hey peoples, Well im almost out of Alaska with only a few months left before i move on to another job and another state (and trust me i cant wait) but I've recently driven twice to anchorage and back to delta junction (6 to 8 hr drive (depending on weather) ) and took some pics for yall. I got bit crazy and drove around on a frozen lake which you get to see there.

Got the vibe a bit (or a lot) dirty lol

On a side note ive passed the 40,000 mile mark...I didnt keep exact track but it happened sometime on the way to anchorage on the 21st. woot woot

Post by navyrican »

List of things to fix on the Vibe for 2014.

1 - 40 mph winds this winter kinda broke something in my door or bent something, gotta figure that out. Basically now the door wont open if the window is lowered at all. (Driver side door)

2 - I think i may have forgotten or just not have installed an intergral part of my HID headlights and foglights. They drive other drivers MAD! i think there is some focusing cone or peice that its suppose to focus the beams downward but at the moment it kinda blinds EVERYONE...but looks sweet lol gotta fix that.

3 - The radio wont work when my HIDs are on...im thinking crossed wires or something...but i can play the radio and when i flick the lights on all i get is static...gotta fix that...or not...i dont really listen to the radio much to be honest.

4 - I want to get that shortened antenna everyone here is getting...looks pretty sweet.

5 - After being in alaska...got a lot of scratches and dinks all over my perty car...might want new paint job.

6 - rims are scratched all to heck...will need to replace.

7 - summer tires worn to shreds, currently using winter tires but need summer ones.

8 - Rear wiper DESTROYED on my last drive up from anchorage. ice kept building up and wiper is damaged and the wiping part completely came off during a snow storm on my way through the mountains..should problably replace it.

If you guys have any input on wiring or any of the issues mentioned above, it would be appreciated. And again HAPPY NEW YEARS :)

Hey Vibenvy, i don't know the brand, i just know that the kit brought four ballasts and rellays and i had to change my battery out because with the HIDs and the green underglow/inside lights i had installed the stock battery barely turned on the car, so i went with the Yellowtop Optima which even starts at negative 40 unplugged so i really like it.

the cost of the kit was around 150 or so, and its color was the 8,000 pure white.

My cousin who did my tint and such owns a shop in florida and hooked everything up for me and gave me the HIDs for cheap
