the prodject should be coming along fairly quickly now. my buddy talked to the roll cage guy and his schedule is open right now. so this weekend we will be tearing the rest of the interior out of it and the sun roof. then my buddy will put in sheet metal in place of the sunroof and paint it pry by next week. he wants to two tone it with black on the bottom and the new camaro green on the top. so in the next few weeks this is gonna be a completly different car.

4-hour drive Up North in January? Woof. Good thing I have snow tires! Do you take 33 North at Alger, or stay on 75 all the way to Otsego Lake/Gaylord? Either way, this event looks fun as hell.

Once you have it converted, keep it registered, and occasionally drive it to the grocery store. All the empty space in there will be great for groceries!

So are you going to fill in the roof rack side rails in with something? I have thought about pulling mine off and having them smoothed out with some metal like it is on the matrix. I just don’t have the tools to do it myself right now, but hopefully I will someday.

Made it to zeeland mi with no problems. Vibe pulled the vibe great. I was actually able to carry 6th gear at 70 the whole way. Got fuel on the way back and averaged 22 mpg. Its better than pulling it with my buddys truck and getting 15 mpg. Now just have to wait for it to get done.

That's pretty cool, I've never seen this done to one of these, that's going to be sweet when you're finished. Do you have a weight goal in mind?

That looks freakin' amazing. Any plans to paint the roll cage or are you going to leave it like that? And have you decided on the paint job for the rally Vibe yet?

i think minimum weight is around 3100 with driver and codrive. so with stock weight about 2750 and approx 400 lbs. of driver and codriver weight and some extra strenthening mods to the body we will pry be a little over minimum weight. we are trying to get put in a production class for now so we can't do to many weight reducing modifications.

yup the roll cage will be painted, possibly a grey color. the cars paint hasn't been finalized yet, only that it will be a 2 tone since the sunroof got removed and still needs paint. the last thought was to paint the top sunburst orange. final decision will be made when we get it back from the roll cage.

Sweet! That's going to improve handling, too. Of course, let's hope that stiffening the unibody is the only thing it'll need to do.

This looks amazing.Just curious about one thing, I thought that GT vibes could not be towed with 2 wheels on the ground but instead needed to be placed on a flat bed.
Gl with the mods, I hope this can rival the DS3 that Leob drives.

Not sure why you could not tow with a dolly....Please explain further what you are saying.

You can't dolly-tow an AWD Vibe. If you do that you'll ruin the rear differential and transfer case. However, the Vibe base and GT are FWD-only, so the rear wheels just trundle along. While on the dolly they still think they're being pulled along by the front wheels (don't tell them the truth, or they'll get confused!).

first off i would like to thank everyone that is following this build. i am having a blast building the car. it is taking me more time than i originally thought to get things done. i have only been able to et a few things done since i got it back from the rollcage shop.
last weekend i staight piped the muffler. it sounds pretty good but i havn't driven it on the road since there is no windshield.
today we got one coat of paint on the roll cage. tomorrow i'm gonna put a second coat on it. once the cage is done being painted i am gonna install the dash and a few other interior pieces.
more to come as it gets done.
thanks for looking

Do you have a theme in mind? Car name? Any sponsor logos to consider? Are you planning to paint or utilize vinyl graphics, or a combination? Is there a budget you had in mind? A lot of options out there for paint and finishes limited only by imagination and funds. With more info a few of us PhotoShop savvy members could mock-up some paint options for ya!

Well... it might be taboo over on Jalopnik, but you should paint the Vibe in Gulf Oil livery!

C'mon... Gulf Oil livery!
Or... take your pick:

Martini striped might look good, since it's a rally car

looks awesome!
if you're still looking for color suggestions, i'd like to suggest mustard yellow, with any accent work done in dark green. and all low gloss-shininess is overrated. i talked a buddy into this color combo on his little honda cafe racer project and it came out brilliantly.

+1, and I like the matte black triangle... things up front, by the wheel arches. I thought about doing that with mine. And that stripe down the side is very tasteful as well.

no theme yet but open for sugestions.
no car name either but we discussed definently not calling it the vibrator
.
one of my friend has a company and will be sponsoring us but i have never seen his logo yet. i keep meaning to get it for some stickers for the car.
we will pry utilize vinyl for most of the art on the car. just incase a few panels have to be replace along the way.
the budget is coming out of my pocket so yeah i would like to keep things simple when possible, but not going cheap on safety items. the wife hasn't complained about anything yet so i must be doing ok so far with what i have spent. i also fix cars on the side to make some extra cash.
the painting shouldn't be a problem or a real expensive part of the car. the guy i am building the car with can paint and his dad restores car. he has done some painting for me in the past on other projects.
definitly wouldn't mind seeing some photoshop ideas, i see a few from a few posts down and am getting some ideas from them.
KITT222 wrote:Well... it might be taboo over on Jalopnik, but you should paint the Vibe in Gulf Oil livery!
lol. had to look this up cause i didn't know what it was. i started working with ford in 2004 when the development was going on for the new gt 40 and we had 2 of them painted like that. if i ever have to paint the whole whole car who knows it would be interesting to see, got to try everything once right.
Doug14 wrote:This is awesome, going to follow this thread for sure. Excited to see how it progresses!
cool, thanks

thanks, my first car was a 84 mustang i had it painted yellow and later added a black stipe down the hood. the color code was from a ford ranger splash. i miss that car, it looked sharp being yellow. definently a eye turner.
for now i would like to leave it base black and add some color to it. but one day if it needs to be all painted i may go crazy and do something like this.
MrHatchWagon wrote:Just curious, are you going to put a racing seat on the driver's side too?
lol. should i ...j/k yeah that was just the day i got them and the passenger seat was already out so i threw it in to see it. waiting untill its painted to get some of the stuff mounted in the car, and trying to figure out how some other equipment will be mounted, like fire extinguishers and timer box.
ligion wrote:Paint suggestion!
cool thanks.
im pry not going that color but i like the design.
