what is that plug inside right side tail light access panel?

Post by gginnj »

We have a 2004 vibe hatchback - inside the right side tail light access panel, there is an electrical plug - looks like it has about 4 or so wires.

What is this plug for?

thanks

The receiver for the keyless remote is in there, if your vibe does not have power windows and locks, then that receiver won't be there and the wire for it will be hanging not connected to anything.

If your vibe does have power windows and locks and the keyless remote works, then it must be for something else, but I don't remember what

I remembered this came up before but couldn't remember what the answer was. Some creative searching, and I came up with
viewtopic.php?t=7538
where the answer was that it is for the XM receiver.

Of course, if you have the factory XM radio and it works, then it must be for something else

I have an 03, and don't have that wire/connector, and it doesn't show up in my 03 wiring diagrams

no, no XM or Serius - however, the previous owner did have Serius, but it was aftermarket and tapped into the console.
The dock is still wired - it has 12V power, antennae and audio out and docking bus.

Don't know if the first owner had it installed, but I doubt it - the cubby hole in the back doesn't look like it's been used for anything,
other than to hide that plug.

Thanks

What color are the wires?

My AWD 2006 has a hitch. But no visible cables. My friend told me they normally would have some cable tucked away in a pocket area or something. I myself haven't really looked yet to see if I found one, but maybe that could just be some kind of connector for the tow cables?

That plug looks exactly like one the plugs that go in the back of the radio.
