Nastiest cabin air filter ever?

Post by GaryG92 »

This is one of the first things I did once I bought my 05 vibe with 131xxx miles on it. I've only changed a handful of cabin filters, and this was by far the worst.

Started pulling it out, and it came out like an accordion

Yep, that's definitely pretty nasty, but at least you didn't find dog food or a mouse nest!

I'm just glad I remembered to check this filter. After I replaced it, air was much colder and stronger. Who would have guessed?

This thread inspired me to check mine for the first time since getting the car a year ago. Glad I did.

I think I may claim the title...

I wish I was joking. I'm really thankful for your thread, it made me go check mine. Something was nesting on top of the filter. I had to reach up and in to get it all. The good news is that it was completely clean underneath where the blower motor is, the filter actually did its job. I will vacuum and disinfect, of course.

I'd say the title is all yours!

The funny thing is, if you look underneath all the nesting material, the filter itself doesn't look too bad :P!

...mine isn't nasty but would anyone know where I can find a replacement part? I need that cover piece that snaps on to hold the filter in place...

Duct tape it until you find one in a junk yard.

changed mine a few months back and it was disgusting and made a mess all over the floorboard. Must have dropped a little in the cage as there's a slight roar, and vibration now. It's more noticeable with circulation on
