easy diy pet barrier

My first adaptation was a pet barrier. I found a panel of VersaPad at a local Theisen’s farm supply store for about $20. The overall size is 4ftx 2ft and it is large enough to make 2 pet barriers. VersaPads are made of a plastic with 1 1/8” o. c. grid. They are easy to cut with a straight blade hand saw or a table saw.
This picture shows two versions. On top is the final version which provides better rear view vision than the first version at the bottom. You may count out the squares to copy the design. The top version is 8 squares high. The top corners are cut by 4 squares in the top row and 2 squares in the second row. The rear view slots are 2 squares high and 13 squares wide, the lower slots are 7 squares wide.

I attached the barrier to the head rests using 2 nylon straps (yellow, about 40”) and 2 lengths of strap (white, about 36”) to keep it from migrating down. The white strap is tied to the grid just behind the headrest. The loose end of the strap runs over the headrest and is tied to the head rest post. This fixes the height of the barrier. Of course I have cut the excess off in order to make it look neater. I intend to switch to all black straps to match colors.

You are correct. the barrier only has contact with the soft head rests and therefore it does not rattle. The first version was sitting lower and had a chance to knock against the hard seat back.

Awesome! That is far nicer looking than most of the store bought ones. My dog is a small pony so I don't really need one (she's too big to fit between headrests and ceiling so she stays in the back just fine), but if I did I'd go this route.

The dog barrier got 2 improvements:
1. I cut the upper corners a bit so it is possible to fold the seat backs forward without removing the barrier.

2. I used Bungey Ball loops (that's how they spell it) to tie the barrier to the head rests.
