(removed) Oversteer

Post by GTwannabe »

Was passing a SUV today on the inside of a banked curving turnpike (speed limit 60 reccomended 40). Right as I was coming around the driver, doing something like 50, hit their turn signal and jerked toward my lane. $!@! They didn't seem to care about other cars or that lane changes are illegal in that bend.

Well I hit the brakes with a slight left swerve to the shoulder. Dams did the back come round. I remeber looking at the grass on the inside come closer and closer, while thinking poo, poo, poo, poo. Wheel was turned an 1/8 to 1/4 to the right. Luckily the SUV swerved back and my rear snaped back into shape. But man that 60 mph drift was interesting.

Should mention that I got a bone-base 5 speed manual. Also been using some tire combos for less understeer. 30psi with G-Forces Summer only up front and 40psi all seasons in back. Normal setup ot TC should keep it from happening.

Might be changing that setup soon.

What on earth would possess you to put so much more traction up front than in the back? Glad you made it out in one piece.

Actually the handeling is fine for spirited street use. You can feel the back sway towards the edge of grip, but smoothly resist it. Its funner then then the benign understeer most of us get. Still Im going to raise the front pressure to keep my emergency envelope wider.
