The forum is back!!!!!

Post by vibrologist »

About one week of "Can't reach this site" had me worried, deeply worried!

Thanks to the human being who lubed 1s and 0s to get them unstuck! :D

Same here. I contacted a couple legendary "somewhat still active" members (no thanks to that Facebook site), and I believe they reached out to the admins who run this site and may have played a role in getting it fixed. Thanks Nick & Carie if you helped! ;)

Another scary few days!

I'm not a member of the fb group anymore, but I lurked over there last evening and at the time didn't see that anyone had noticed it was down.

I shot Mike an email letting him know. Long story short, new backend work was done last time it was down, causing it to go down this latter time as it ran out of memory. All should be good for a while :)

I wonder what's going on right now. All of the dropdowns are always exposed at this point.

If need be, I guess I could offer to host the site on one of my servers.

Temporarily, if you click on the option that would be the drop down, the options will vanish - until you try to do the same to another. That moves them around a bit so you can find what you're looking for.

I'm suspecting there's some underlying damage to the theme. I'm seeing missing images (for buttons), plus extra characters in some of the drop down options.

Looks exactly what I'm seeing as well. I posted a similar screenshot in the "the forum is updated" thread.

It does look like some of it is a cache problem. There were some warnings about goofy things happening on the phpBB upgrade groups, but I didn't have a problem on the ones I upgraded.

I purged the cache on Firefox, and it allowed most of the stuff here to be visible again, but there are still missing pieces. Oddly enough, I'd never used chrome to come here, and it had the same problems.

Switching to a different theme will probably fix it for everyone at once, as the cache won't be the same. I'm not the admin here, so i'm mostly blowing smoke.

So, for a quick fix, purge your browser cache.
