I thought I'd add my voice to this in a different way: was just up in Niagara Falls (hello all my Ontario friends) on vacation. Thank goodness my rental car had XM on it so I could keep my 'all 80's sanity.' Anyway, I was absolutely amazed at two things: one, how dumpy the town of Niagara Falls, Ontario is; and two, how many Vibes (first and second generation) we saw while we were there. Here in the Delta Quadrant, every other car is a Camry. In Niagara Falls, it seemed like every other car was a Vibe......amazing. As for the topic of music, Colin Hay is playing tomorrow night at the Casino. I was sad to get on the plane, because I know my daughter and I would love to attend, as he plays many of his Men at Work favorites. Oh well; we had fun playing with the racoons in the back of the casino every night and watching the fireworks three times during the week. Oh, and by the way, Rush's drummer reportedly grew up in the Niagara region, so I was playing 'Dreamline' over and over in my head.

Haven't listened to it enough yet to say for sure - but the new singer sounds a lot like Staley. So far I think my favorite track is "Last of My Kind".

...since I play guitar (chordal jazz), instrumental music--and especially jazz guitar music--are my favorites, but there aren't that many AM or FM stations playing them on the air...and XM is way over-priced....thus, I listen to a lot of CD's...many I made myself as compilations of tunes from albums and CDs that I liked.

Here is something some of you may find interesting. This band is called Van Canto, they are an acapella metal band out of Germany. That may sound odd, but check it out.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F9aJuHJE80I should probably mention that there are 5 singers and a drummer, other than the drums there are no instruments utilized.

Funny to look back at page two and see what I posted in 2003. What makes it even funnier, is that I am still listening to those bands today! Except now they are on a flash drive and plugged into my USB port in my car.

OK i had to you tube this. surprised that's actually pretty good. usually i hear about something like this and its just crappy non stop screaming. but these guys actually have some real talent, when i do listen to stuff that hard i like a good balance of singing, and the singing has to be at least a little understandable. i may just have to do some downloading tonight.

Yeah they are not really well known yet, they are from Florida and they happened to be at one of the local thrash clubs the same night as my fave local band (Who aren't quite as good, but local guys..) That was an awesome night, played with Sammus Theory (who are better live than recorded) and Razorblade Dolls (Who kick A live) I agree with you. I love me some good metal music but it's got to be coherent. My favorite every day song of theirs is 'Light to Shine'. It's from their first release, pretty good BTW, Track 1 is 'Light the Fire'.

It's shut down now, I loved that place, hard time hearing for days after, but it was the one place you saw chicks dressed up all glam, every type in black with studs and chains and piercings, dudes in bermudas and hawaiian shirts, every day joes, emos and scenes..gay straight and I am pretty sure some cross dressers... and everyone is just cool with each other and there for the same thing. Miss it.

That sux it's shut down From where I'm at, there's pretty much just country, hip hop, and pop. Some bands play old school R&R, but nothing heavy or thrashy. Makes it really hard to find anyone to jam with around here. Drummers seem to be scared of double bass hahaha

They seem like one-hit wonders most of the time but, given the right circumstances, they can be good jams.If anyone is looking for awesome nighttime driving music (really chill), please check out Sigur Ros and Mogwai. Sigur Ros is an Icelandic band so the songs aren't in English but the music composition is absolutely stunning and atmospheric. Mogwai is similar but the songs that do contain singing are in English. Mogwai also has a bit more of a rock sound. On a final note, do yourself a favor and look up One Cloud by Rob Martino on YouTube. It is hard to believe that all of that music is coming from one guy and one instrument (Chapman stick). It's awesome!

Love how a bump on this thread is all that's needed when my playlists are getting stale Lots of new things to look at/for. Thanks!BTW... TMV reminds me of a little more epic version of early Muse, whom I adore. Check out the stuff off their album Absolution, and Origin of Symmetry. Good stuff.
