I'M PRO-CHOICE WHEN IT COMES TO GASOLINE
Responding to the Dec. 13 letter from Bob Stallman, president of the American Farm Bureau
Federation ("There Is More to Higher Food Prices Than Corn Ethanol"): The most upsetting
aspect of the government mandates to dilute gasoline with ethanol is that it denies me the
option of using 100% gasoline in my motor vehicle. I believe pure gasoline is better for my
engine and also gives me more hope to achieve the fuel-efficiency ratings for motor vehicles
issued by the EPA. Its miles-per-gallon numbers are based on 100% gasoline, a fuel you
virtually cannot find in the marketplace.
I guess when it comes to gasoline, I am "pro-choice." If ethanol is so good, let the farmers
sell it on its own merits without lobbying the government to essentially mandate its use by
unwilling customers.
