Great post.I'm a geologist for a mining company near Nashville. We mine for zinc ore and I basically try to find it underground. It's a good job but I'm thinking of teaching. Pretty torn right now on what to do.

Always a fun topic.. I own and work in a by-appointment-only custom tattoo studio, also work full time doing CS and web support for a large-ish ladies' clothing retailer (I'm one of the "live help" people you can chat with on their web site when you have questions). The wife and I also have an Ebay store, selling vintage clothing and toys.

Difficult to explain...Basically I am the CAD Manager/Lead Drafter for the Phoenix branch of a multi-national Engineering Consultant firm called AECOM. My particular group (Transportation) specializes in the design of just about everything you see when driving down the road...except the cars. We work with several Cities, Towns, and other Gov't agencies to develop the plans for new roads, highways, bridges, landscaping, drainage, traffic signals, traffic signs and pavement markings, retaining walls, sound/noise walls, guardrails and barriers, environmental impact studies, street lighting and etc.I have been doing this for over 11 years now so I tend to talk about it a lot. Who am I kidding...I am just a hairless monkey being used as a slave by the industry.

My job is one that sounds interesting, but really isn't . I'm a bee pollen inspector, or as I like to call it... bee pollen impurity extrication specialist (it makes me sound more important!) . I work for a fast growing health food company - Y.S. Organic. I sit in a little white room all day with one other woman picking impurities out of 80 lb barrels of bee pollen. We work on a totally custom made machine. It has a huge hopper on top that the bee pollen is dumped into, then the bee pollen falls down onto a conveyor belt that is about 2-2.5 feet long. We have small plastic hoses that are connected to a large shop vac that we use to "pick" the impurities i.e. bee heads, bee legs, small twigs, small rocks, etc. out of the bee pollen as it travels down the conveyor belt. After traveling down the conveyor belt, the bee pollen falls back into the barrels and is ready to be packaged. It's a very tedious job. As a matter of fact, I couldn't even tell you the number of people they've hired to do this job over the five years I've been there and they don't last more than a day or two. My co-worker and I are the only ones that can stand to do this job without falling alseep or getting really dizzy. It's a decent job. The pay is good, it's close to home. etc. and for whatever reason we seem to be getting more business despite the economy which is always a good thing .On a bit of a side note, if any of you out there are health nuts, check out Y.S. Organic products at Dominick's, GNC, Vitamin Shoppe and many other small and large health food stores. Another one of our best selling products is raw, organic honey if anyone's a honey lover. On another side note, I thought I'd add this picture of me in my "uniform" (a hair net, yellow Y.S. t-shirt and the newly added, ever so fashionable white lab coat) :

I WANT to eventually become an aerospace engineer for NASA. But if the private space exploration sector displaces NASA, I'm going into automotive design. Then I also work with Dr. E. Brown with his many experiments, which explains why I can't drive over 88mph.

sigh...I don't have a career yet...just a job, but my mom once told me you can't ever be JUST anything(when I got my first job at Sonic)....so anyways, with that said.... I am currently in Order Filling at a Wal-Mart Distribution Center. I sign out hundres of labels and I place them on boxes and boxes for 12hrs a day.... I have a minimun production rate of 480 cases/hr that I have to reach. Pros:-I make $15.50/hr after only 3months-I only work Sat, Sun, and Mon so the rest of the week is free-My time with the company from working at the store stays with me-They match up what I put into my 401k up to 6% of my check-If a holiday lands on a day that I'm off work (Tues-Fri) I get 12 hrs to use whenever, like VacationCons:-My back hurts all the time-My hands cramp-I sweat all day-I miss out on family gatherings over the weekend -I work for the "Evil Empire"

I'm finishing out my apprenticeship as a Low Voltage Installer Tech. What do I do? Anything that isn't power--we do voice, data, security, hvac controls, sound, video, etc, pretty much all of it.I get to go to different places so it's an interesting field. In the last year I've been in a couple Ford plants, in the tunnels under a Detroit library, on top of the cooling towers at Wayne St, and right now I'm working at Metro Airport.

Fascinating the variety of intelligent folks who drive Vibes. 44 years old and back in school to embark upon a second career as a RN. Earned a B.S. in education in 1990 and spent the past 20 years as a motorcycle safety program administrator and then sales manager at a motorcycle dealership. Currently working at the local hospital as a Telemetry Technician while they put me through nursing school.

What a variety of jobs and careers we have.I spent 30+ years performing the miracle the salesman sold. What was sold rarely matched what the customer thought they bought.Various industries:GroceryBankingRetailMedicalVendingFoodserviceI was trained on vacuum tubes so I've seen all of the changes related to 'puters.Started my own company, about 10 years ago, servicing business equipment. Then I switched over to selling supplies. I've sold just about everything that didn't require a license or a permit.I started another company to sell bottled water for home and office. Also I do custom labeling of the 16.9oz water bottles.Still starting another company to sell colloidal silver on the internet.I also work at Kohl's 2-3-4 days a week unloading the truck and putting the goods on the sales floor.I got my very first paid job at eight years old and have been working ever since. My full resume' is larger than most Sunday papers.I've done just about everything except keep the money I made.
