I think they were going for the likeness to "iPod" with the name...it doesn't really bother me.I'd love to have one if I can justify the cost. I especially love the eBooks feature.
as with most new cutting edge technology, I'll wait. I wait for the crowds to die down at hot new stores and restaurants, I waited for handheld calculators, I waited for CD Players, I waited for computers, I waited for iPods, I waited for the iPhone, so I'll wait, let them make it better, let them make it cheaper, let them prove it and then maybe I'll buy it.The name doesn't bother me at all. People can and will twist any name given the opportunity.Dave
I have a couple issues with it.1. no multitasking2. no flash supported yetSo what does that mean? cant run 2 apps at the same time like, pandora and browse the web. AND my biggest issue, no flash, which means I cant watch hulu on it. If it had those two, I'd be all over it.

I can read off of it for long periods at a time, just like a book.

I watched the video from Apple, read the threads on CNET and came to the conclusion that its a really big iPod Touch. I'd get one if I really want to get an eReader, other than that, it has the same functionality as my iPhone without the ability to make calls or slip it into my pocket so I'm not sure how or why this is "better than a netbook".
Sounds like a great toy, but I dont have the time to mess with stuff like that. Sounds like fun though.

That thing is freaking huge, expensive, and I don't want to know how much the monthly chages will be!I'd much rather spend $200 on a refurbished netbook....

Seems like a nifty device, much more advanced than the last similar Apple product I owned (a Newton Message Pad circa 1995.)

According to Apple you can buy the WiFi only version for as little as $499 and the WiFi & 3G for as little as $629.For the 3G service, you can get 250MB of data per month for $15 or unlimited data for $30 without a contract so its ideal if you might be traveling and want data away from home without having to stop at every coffee shop for wifi along the way.

So I broke down and bought an iPad. I absolutely love it. I haven't been away from my laptop for this long in a looooong time. I downloaded the iBooks app, the kindle app, and the kobo e-reader app. My Sony e-reader is still way better for e- books but this is nice. I'm typing this post from it now. I am no apple fan girl but this I love.

I bought one for the wife about a month ago... works fine for posting on GenVibe!!! But for all the gimmicks it has, I personally would have bought a decent laptop for the price!!!Oh well, she's happy and that's all that matters...
I like that I can do "business" stuff on it - vnc into my laptop from the ipad, view/edit word docs, pdfs, excel... much smaller to lug around than my Dell laptop.

I've played around with the iPad a few times. Not overly impressed. I can do everything the iPad can on my phone (and my phone supports Flash). Like many others have said, for the price I would rather buy a laptop that can do much more.

It's a "base model" without 3G, 16g HD. To comment on myself: Having been using it it's relativly light and being so thin it can fit in a surprising amount of places (like the glovebox, friends laptop can't fit in there). I do like the big screen as watching movies on the small iphone screen is just retarted.... Paid $654 after tax BUT I have NO monthly charges!!! I mainly just surf the net and use the google maps app (which is faster on the ipad then my desktop ). I wouldn't mind a netbook... but it's nothing that I can't live without!
Hey, have you heard of the new Ipad? It's called the Ipad Nano! Oh wait, that's an Itouch. Nevermind.I'm just an Apple-hater. Not quite sure why. And I think the Ipad is useless when for much cheaper you can get a nice netbook or a laptop. It's just a bigger, more expensive Itouch. (Though the Itouch doesn't have as much of a 'cool' or 'wow' or 'awesome' factor, I'll admit.)

Yup... got one of those as well...I've never been the biggest Apple fan either but they do make a good product. And you have to remember, the wife is happy. She uses the nano everyday and both of them work well with the AUX jack in the Vibe.

I want this laptop (which is already a few years old) to still be kicking after at least five more computer come around, have their heyday, and are outdated by several years. I know I'm getting one for college in a few years, but this 'ol laptop will still be going. And I said IpAd, not IpOd. But MAN I want one of those Nanos. I just have a new Shuffle. I had a giftcard, and paid less than $20 for it. I have about 25 songs on it to. But it won't do me any good, since my FM transmitter just died on me. I'll have to wait for a new radio (finger crossed for Xmas!).

I went through about 3 screen protectors before I figured out how to get it on without miniscule hairs, bubbles etc. It was driving me nuts. I have about three tiny bubbles on mine now, but its not enough to drive me crazy looking at it.

I'd like an iPad myself but not until it can do more, maybe the 2nd Gen will suffice for my purposes. In the interim - if you can find a used - or actually you can still find them new in some parts... a Dell Mini 10V model (the Intel GMA950 graphics card is the key) you can have all that you need in a MacBook Mini! (Hackintosh that is). Picked up mine for $200 and the process was extremely easy, took me an hour and I'm no hacking genius. Found the info here: http://gizmodo.com/5389166/how...tbook Also followed some threads for further info here, these guys are dedicated to solving pretty complex issues: http://www.mydellmini.com/foru....html I've got my Dell Mini running smooth with Snow Leopard at version 10.6.4. Thinking about replacing its hard drive now with a solid state unit and maybe upgrading RAM, but they are kind of difficult to take apart ! Its quite alot of fun for only $200 and does everything a MacBook can do... well almost, obviously the NetBook processor is the limit.
wasn't a fan of the ipad... but my brother just gave me one for christmas, so i won't complain pretty hi-tech christmas this year. android os phone, ipad..woohooo!!!!
