My latest toy!

Post by ToolGuy »

I have always wanted one of these, long story as to how I got this one! It is used and came from a NY Hummer dealership. I transformed it to what you see. Holds my 28 1/18th DieCast Corvettes!

Todd that's awesome! Was it in bad shape when you got it? How much work did you have to do to it? It looks great now--and that's a neat idea to hold your collectibles! I just hope your wife appreciates it as much as you do!

Thanks Becky! My wife is very tolerable of my passion! Well only if it stays in the basement but she still does not give me a hard time. It was in pretty good shape when I got it the yellow Hummer globe was cracked (I knew this when I bought it) but I was not going to use it anyway. I also added Shell side glasses to it, like the one that says Premium and a sticker that says Contains Lead Gas but you cannot see those from the front. The funny (well funny after I figured out what to do) part about it is I had to remove the black base because I could not get the globe on and needed 4 more inches. My wife laughed her (removed) off at me too! The guy gave me measurements with it off thus I thought it would be fine. Luckily the base comes off and I just had to cut a 1/2" thick piece of wood for the new base. The Shell globe does touch the ceiling! If it were on the first floor of my house I would not have to remove the base. The guy also wanted to gouge me on shipping but I was able to use the freight company my work uses and got a 70% discount! That was a real saver! I was really nervous before it arrived though and expected a fork lift to have punctured right through the package, or who knows what but nope, it arrived just fine!

http://www.gaspumpheaven.com/This place has parts to restore all kinds of genuine old pumps that used to be used for fuel.Mine is a fiberglass repo of a Wayne pump but uses many of the same parts like the globe, stickers, nozzle parts, etc. I had to have the hardware store make more shelves though, that glass is really cheap. Home Depot had the shelf holders.

Thanks Hope! I remember seeing your pic too, great idea for your case! If my garage were finished then I may have put it in there but since it is not, it had to go in my finished basement.

yeah that looks really nice. great ideas todd and hope n mav EDIT: i just noticed in hope's picture that the satellite/platinum vibe is still on the top shelf above the subie stuff. i think it's a sign that the vibe still reigns supreme lol or, it's a reminder of the reason that they are together

WOW! awesome!!!! and yes, our garage isn't finished either so it would probably look lame. we got enough boxes of stuff and car parts.
