shifter bushing (not cable bushing) - 09

Post by Que165 »

I have an 09 2.4L 5spd manual. Id like to replace the plastic bushing at the base of the shifter, but i cannot find a replacement anywhere. has anyone been able to find one? I ordered brass shifter cable bushings, but theres a lot of play and id also like to replace the plastic one at the shifter. so strange that i cant find the part anywhere on the internet.

I don't know if the shifter base bushings that www.monkeywrenchracing.com sells for the 03-08 manual would work on the 09+.

The other option you have is to measure that bushing size, and take to searching eBay for them.

Just looked in the 3-volume Helms manuals and NOTHING at all when it comes to bushings on either of the 5-speed trannys. MRW will be your best bet if they have them.

I could not find any bushings that you want but the whole shifter can be bought from Toyota. Here is link to one I found for a:
This part fits the vehicle you selected:
2009 Toyota Matrix
United States Of America; 4 Cyl 2.4L DOHC EFI; Manual Transmission; 5-Speed Manual Transmission; AZE141L-DHMNKA
The vehicle options this part fits:
Production Date: 01/2008-12/2010
Fitting Vehicle Options: AZE141, 146, ZRE142.. 5F

Here is link to shifter for $28.60 + shipping:
https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toy ... er,,33530F

I do not know if it is the one you need but may be worth a shot for that price if you can not get the bushings any other way.

That's what I thought also. Go for it and let us know if it solves your problem. On another note, just curious of the mileage on this Vibe. How many owners? How many different drivers? My "rarely driven" 09 GT with the manual tranny is still just as firm & tight as when I bought it so no bushing replacements for me for quite awhile. My 04 on the other hand is very sloppy at 150k miles (3/4" loose travel in any direction at the shifter before engaging in any cable movement) and definitely have to correct it soon. I'm the third owner of that Vibe.

It's an 09, my Mom bought it brand new and was the first owner. Its been mine for the past 2 years now, and it's sitting at 155k miles. the shifter is awful

I just ordered one for my manual 09 GT. At 185K, shifting is an art form. I am the 3rd owner. It is commuter and runs perfect but hunting the gears is a talk. I am hoping this does the trick...major play in the shifter so doing this is logical. All other diagnosis ideas lead to much more costly conclusions. Definitely will post a follow-up.
