2009-2010 clutch freeplay adjustment

Post by hiker147 »

Hello all, it has been a while. Trying to adjust clutch freeplay. I know where and why; however it looks like I would have to pull so hard on the locknut that the plastic/nylon coupling to the clutch pedal would break to get it loose. Does not make any sense that this would be reverse threaded, so what gives? Am I missing something. Plus once the nut is loose how the hell do you get in there to turn the pushrod, or do you need someone with small hands to get in there (maybe needle nose pliers, but what a pain). This should not be hard, I have done it on other Toyota's but this one has got me stumped. Any help appreciated.

I don't know of anyone who has adjusted freeplay in the pedal on these. I'm not sure if you can.

Since this is a hydraulic clutch, if an adjustment is needed, it is a good indication that something is bad with the system or worn out. That is why most people do not just adjust the clutch pedal. That being said, here is the procedure for the pedal adjustment.

3. Loosen the lock nut and turn the stopper bolt (1) until the correct height is obtained.
4. Install the lock nut and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

12. Check the clutch release point.
13. Pull the parking brake lever and install wheel chocks.
14. Start the engine and run it at idle.
15. Without depressing the clutch pedal, slowly move the shift lever into reverse until the gears contact.
16. Gradually depress the clutch pedal and measure the stroke distance from the point that the gear noise stops, release point, up to the full stroke end position (a).

Specification
Standard distance: 25 mm (0.98 in) or more (from pedal stroke end position (2) to release point)

17. If the distance is not as specified, perform the following procedure:
• Check the pedal height.
• Check the push rod play and pedal free play.
• Bleed the clutch line.
• Check the clutch cover and disc.

Pedal Height from Floor:
Engine Type Pedal Height: mm (in)
